Hello, after having several leaks in front of fridge, turned water off to refrig, had serviceman come in. he said leak due to door not shutting completely, which caused drain hose in freezer to clog. made sense, as door had been stopping just short of fully closing. cleared clog, emptied drain pan. but still have leak. comes back says bec door open. but have been shutting door completely. Intermittent leak--2 nights ago, then nothing. then today i open door, get eggs, close and 2 minutes later large leak. drain pan feels dry; leak seems to be to left of it (under freezer more than fridge). have spent over $400 between service call and getting ice maker (burnt motor) repaired; selling house in 1 month, help! Is there any simple solution?

to allow your fridge/freezer to be ice free a timed defrost phase apxx every 7 to 10 hrs occurres whe the ice is drefrosted the water shoud go via a collection tray to the top af the compressor to keep it cool the tray is situated at the bottom of the freezer side behind the panel youll find is probally blocked and the water is overflowing to the front instead of going the correct way if you tecn minded unplugh the appliance remuve the pabel and unblock the drain tray the panel is inside the freezer torward the bottom

you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back of freezer..you will see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. the reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking down the vent instead of the drain hole...If you need any further assistance please feel free to comment again. good luck!

When your refer defrosts a couple times a day it produces about a quarter of a cup of water each time. This occurs in the freezer section. The water travels down a drain pipe (or tube) that leads to a drian pan in the bottom of the unit. It is collected and evaporates from the heat of the motor.
If the drain is plugged water will form inside the unit itself. If the drain tube has somehow moved and not allowing the water to collect in the drain pan it will go on the floor.Either way,if the drain is the problem the amount of water should be pretty small, no more than a cup or two.If you have an icemaker or ice and water through the door and the amount of water on the floor is more than a cup or two. I would find the water shutoff for the supply line(probably behind the unit in newer homes)and turn it off.Clean up the water and wait a day.If the water goes away assume that one of the plastic lines in the unit that carries water to the icemaker or door is leaking. If the water continues I would suspect the drain. The only way to check the drain is to unplug the unit and remove the cardboard back, locate the drain pan and see if water is present and that the drain line is in it's proper place.
If one of the water lines is leaking you will most likely need a service tech.
Also it's best to turn the icemaker off by lifting the arm or switch before you turn the water off for testing.

Do you have an ice maker feature. If so check the water line to the back of the refrigerator. It may be leaking.
SOURCE: I have a GE PTC22
Its defrost problem. Try
manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet
for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,.
If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of
fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from
online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.
