Question about iLO DVDR04
These players are sorry! I went through 3 in less then 6 months. There is not enough heat ventilation in these even though it has a heat vent fan. It burns the dvd drive up on them, to give the results your having. I removed the boot strap and power from back of my old dvd drive replaced dvd drive with one that goes in pc and just set it on top of my ilo case on the outside don't look pretty, but it's got plenty of cool air and has been going strong.

These ilo R04 only record on 4x speed or slower, the new 8x or 16x won't work or will damage laser. The new variable speed discs work, these say 1x-16x.
Some brands of discs won't work in Ilo's.Try name brands disc like Sony, cheap brands often won't work.
Have you cleaned laser use commercial disc cleaner?Laser can be manually cleaned with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires opening dvd burner. If you do this make sure electrical plug is pulled, laser will cause serious burns if you remove top while still plugged in.
