Generic problem for all Dryers

My son put soaking wet towel & shorts in dryer. I turned off the dryer at the control panel. The dryer then started to make a beeping sound (no lights were on). In order to get this to stop I turned it off at the power point. I haven't tried to start it again. Not sure what to do. Please help!
