Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I bought an Acer C301XMi on ebay cause i thought it would be an easy fix...Ha :-) No Hard drive, No mini PCI, no battery - all other parts accounted for. Not sure what is wrong with the screen. I tried several 128 & 256mb sticks but the results are always the same. When powered on; the fan starts, the screen shows virtical but barely visible stripes and nothing more. No power to the DVD-rom, no external display and none of the LED's light up. Sometimes when i press and hold the power button for 6 seconds it shuts back down. The results are the same when powered on with a formatted hard drive except that i can hear the initial attempts to load software. Where do i start?

Seems like the video adapter build into the mainboard is faulty, you would most likely have to replace the mainboard, so its pretty much not worth the repair.

http://www.zandparts.com/acer/index.php?cPath=561_567_1030_7162

or the display could be also faulty, can't say for sure which one it is. Replacing both of those will come close to the price of a new machine.

Does the acer aspire 7551g -7606 have a msata slot?

Apparently there isn't that many reviews out there yet, for an Acer Aspire 7551-7606
(I found one, and it was SERIOUSLY lacking)

From Acer Support,

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/2010/Acer/Aspire/Aspire7551/Aspire7551sp2.shtml

Input and Output: HDMI port

I would think that slot next to the Ram Memory is for a Wireless Module. ('Wireless Card')

I believe the Acer T77H167.07 module is used. Used in a LOT of Acer laptops,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Aspire-7741Z-Atheros-Wifi-Wireless-Card-T77H167-07-HF-AR5B97-/251001063265

Now would it use a Mini-SATA slot, or a Mini-PCI-E slot?

Mini-PCI-Express slot. You wouldn't want a wireless module using a slow SATA slot.

It's probably PCI-Express 2.0 technology that is used.

The best that SATA will move data is, SATA 3 at 6Gigabits per Second, (6Gb/s)

[NOTE*
Not Bytes -> Bits.
A Byte is considered to be 8 bits.
8 Characters. Whether they are numbers, letters, or symbols.
A bit is considered to one character ]

PCI-Express 2.0 with a 32-lane connector can transfer data back, and forth at 16GB/s

16 GigaBytes per Second,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#PCI_Express_2.0

8 GB/s one direction (Send), and 8GB/s the other direction. (Receive)

Is the acer as5517 series laptop using a pci express card for the internal wireeless card

The Acer, as with lots of other laptops uses a smaller, card interface called "Half Size Mini PCI". This is much smaller than the desktop specification PCI or PCI Express and is specific to laptop hardware.

I looked at a spare parts website to find you a part number and came up with this. Use this information to find a similar part based on your country.

Compatible Hardware: Aspire 5517 series (AS5517-5700, AS5517-5997)
Wireless Card details: Atheros AR5B95-H half size mini PCI wireless network card (Dual mode 802.11b/g)
