Question about Gateway M305CRV Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop screen my mother has a Toshiba Laptop, and the screen is 'faded'. (if you tilt the screen in certain light you can sort of see whats on). The computer is on, sometimes you can tell where the mouse is, she's been hooking it up to an extra moniter. How do we get the screen back to normal?

Sounds like the backlight or the inverter is bad. Inverters run about 30 bucks on e-bay. if it's the backlight it is easier to replace the whole screen. Start by replacing the inverter and see if that helps.

sounds like the video cable is pinched in the hinges. This was really common with first generation macbook air. has guides for disassembling, but you'll quite likely need a new video cable.

The screen on my lap top has had 3 very thin lines across the screen but if you tilt it they go now sometimes they screen fades away and i have to move the screen again this is getting worse could it be...

I'm a laptop repair technician, and in my experience the very thin horizontal or vertical lines are usually caused by malfunction in the display panel and the entire screen has to be replaced. If might be worth a shot for you to try and reseat the LCD cable though, but I doubt that it will work.

If you tilt it to the light, do you see a faint image?

Can you connect the laptop to a external monitor and toggle the FN + F5 key to adjust monitor settings to output to the 2nd screen.

Power on screen still black

The following might be the problem:
  1. The screen might be bad
  2. The screen board might be bad
  3. The screen light might be bad
  4. The laptop mother board might be bad.
To be sure if the mother board is still working, connect your laptop to a monitor an see it it displays.

You need to take your laptop to a qualified technician to ascertain the main problem so that action can be carried out.

There was a Toshiba laptop that some brought to me, the fault was the same as yours but when the laptop was checked, we found out that the fault was from the screen light. That is the lights that makes the screen bright was dead.

I wish you the best.

My laptop will turn on, but once it goes on, the screen is blank

If you only had it since December, the laptop should still be under warranty. Call Toshiba? Also check when it is on, have you tried looking closer to the screen and see if there is a faded image? If there is a faded picture. then your laptop's inverter has died

Screen Fades out/distorted

If you're pressing on the lcd itself, it could mean the cable is coming loose, in which case is easily repaired.
If you're pressing somewhere else on the laptop, it could mean many things. Either way, I'd certainly check around for a reputable locally owned repair shop specializing in laptop repair (such as ours does ;~) To bad you aren't in Broken Arrow Ok. or I'd be glad to take a look.
Good luck
