Question about Bose Wave Radio

Open Question

60 Cycle Hum

When the radio is on a 60 Cycle Hum can be heard, regardless of the radio volume setting. Sometimes the amplifier turns on by itself and emmits the same noise. (Radio is not playing)

Does anyone have a schematic?

Actually the problem was caused by a bad 470uf cap, that was used to filter the powersupply for all the analog amps. Replaced the cap the unit works like new.

My speakers hum even when volume is set at lowest setting and static noise after it has been turned off, how do I fix it?

This isn't really a solution, but it does work. Mine does the same thing, and I found on another forum, some one suggested that once the power is off and it starts to hum. Smack the back left top (as your are facing it) and it will stop the buzzing. I was hesitant at first, but after many fruitless searches, I gave it a try. It does work, but you have to hit it fairly hard and it may take a couple tries to get it to stop. I still can't believe no one has found a solution to this, it seems to be a common problem. If someone is a tech person, please way in on this, I am willing to take this thing apart, I just don't know what to look for. It appears that they use relays to delay the time for powering on and off the amp, once the 2-3 second delay is over after powering off, the speakers buzz loudly with a static noise.

I must have pressed the wrong button on my old but excellent Proton 320 clock radio because the radio no longer comes on at the time set on its alarm. The radio is fine when I just turn it ON; it goes...

when you set the alarm it is activating by itself ...see that you have the button that will set it to go to radio or buzzing noise..and in the back it has a knob for a separate volume on the alarm I think this is what you have lower and the alarm is not heard even if it kicks in ..
let me know if that is the issue or I should see further ..

My Bose Wave is doing fine except that the brightness of the display in the front goes dim and bright, sometimes flickering. Most of the time it is dim and not readable. I did change out the 9V battery...

This is a common problem with this model.

The LCD has a dimmer circuit that can be responsible, in some case it is not the dimmer regulation, but the LCD control circuit itself. In that case you have no LCD backlight and the display is almost unreadable. If that is the problem, changing dimmer settings with procedure below will not help.

Most of the time the problem is dimmer regulation.

About dimmer regulation:

Try disconnecting the unit power cord for ten minutes and connect back.
Try holding down CD or CLOCK button and pressing at the same time the volume buttons. This procedures regulates Bose dimmers setting in a scale from one to 9. The dimmer has separate settings for medium and low brightness. Set both to 5 if you want to disable dimmer settings.

How can I set the timezone on my Sentry self-setting atomic clock?

Many Sentry product manuals can be down loaded from the following URL
The instructions for Sentry CR104 is located at the following URL
I have noticed sometimes the instructions tell you to use the ADJUST key.
If that does not work try the SET key sometimes it will work instead of the ADJUST key.

Are you listening to AM or FM? If you are listening to AM, trying rotating the radio. You may be picking up some type of local AM interference. If it's happening on FM....then I guess there is always a possibility that you may have a defective power supply and what you are hearing is the hum from that.
