Question about Motorola Mobility MD7091 Cordless Phone

Motorola MD7001 display failure

The LCD's in these units all seem to gradually fail line by line after a few years and Motorola "support" is nil for out-of-warranty units. This is clearly an irreversible LCD and/or driver failure. Sure would like to get these 6 expensive units repaired!!--hope someone can figure out where to get service or parts; hell, I'll fix 'em myself if I can get the parts.

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing that you bought any MD7001 repair components on eBay. I had previously searched eBay and also by Google for MD7001 parts. There were no Motorola parts sources found with either of these Internet resources.

Given Motorola's non-support for MD7001 out of warranty cordless phones and how expensive they are, and the universal display failures, we will surely NOT be buying any more Motorola consumer equipment.

Thx for trying again to suggest a searchable solution. However, this site is for Motorola automotive products only--nonetheless I tried searching there for the cordless service or parts--nada. It's looking like Motorola simply does not support their consumer products past the warranty period. Also there does not seem to be any third-party service organization that supports repair of the Motorola cordless phones. This is not too surprising since there is apparently nowhere to get replacement parts. I sure hate to throw away $1,200 worth of 2-line digital 5.8GHz cordless phones, but they aren't very useful with illegible displays. Way to go, Motorola!.

The lcd display has gradually got feinter over the last few years. It is now practically unusable. I have not tried to fix it.

Have you been using it by sunlight?
This happens to all LCD displays if they are by sunlight.
You may have to get the unit replaced.

Vostro 1500 LCD

Your unit uses a fluorescent backlight and an inverter to provide the high voltage for it. Considering that it varies in intensity, it isn't likely a failing fluorescent tube (these will mostly fail gradually and not recover) but rather the inverter and this is often a small separate board that is replaceable.

I have a Blank LCD screen and everything else seems to function fine

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $139.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

It would seem that the video processing section is sensitive to heat. You do not indicate how old the set is, so if under a year, it should still be under warranty and you should request warranty service. Provide as many details about when the problem occurs so that it can be reproduced.

If the unit is out of warranty, check to be sure that any fans on the top or botton are free from dust and are turning. Also, you can open up the back and carefully reseat all of the cables and connectors. A bad connection at one of those could show up like this too. If all of that fails to resolve the problem, then the unit will need to be seen by a servicer. There are no user servicable parts inside other than the actual boards and those are not cheap. It is possible that a servicer may spot something that we can not see, being remote and all..

Good luck and keep us posted.
