Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Samsung window unit. Stopped cooling. Found icing on the cooling coils in the upper rightfront and on two smaller lines in the back that appear to go into the coils. Turned it off to defrost. After defrosting, set the tepm to 72 on cool and the fan speed to 2. Icing started again in the same locations within 5 minutes.

There are only two things that will cause freezing on an ac, lack of air flow or lack of refrigerant. verify the cleanliness of the coils, the blower squirrel cage, and the filter, if all are clean the charge need to be checked, the leak reapried and the system recharged

Replace fan motor

Hello Theresa;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You did not provide a model number which is located on a label on the upper liner side wall in your fresh food section. So, I do not know what you have.

There are several reasons your fresh food section is not cooling:

1.) Cooling air vent from freezer to fresh food section. Find the air vent, put your hand in front of it, do you feel any air flow? This vent may be iced up or closed.
2.) Freezer cooling coils iced up - Look at the back wall of your freezer, is there frost or ice on the wall? You may have a bad defrost heater.
3.) Cooling coil fan - Open the freezer door do you hear the fan? Push in on the light switch, do you hear the fan?

Get back to me.

Is there supposed to have ice on the lines inside the house on the central air cooling unit?

No there is not supposed to be any ice. The bigger tubing may sweat but not ice over. If it is iced over:
1. check your filter
2. refrigerant may be low
3. the evaporator coil may be stopped up with dirt.

If there is ice on the line, more than likely, the evaporator coil (located above or below your indoor unit) is also iced over causing low air flow through your ductwork. The air coming through the vents may be real cold but there may not be much force. This indicates a stopped up or iced over evaporator coil or a dirty filter. Best thing to do is turn the unit off, let it thaw our for a few hours, change the filter while waiting, and try it again. Hope this helps you. stay cool. mark

We have maytag model msd2651kgb refrigerator. both sides freezer and fridge are working fine but ice maker has stopped. found ice on back of ice maker close to rear of freezer . any idea whats wrong?

You have a clog is your water line, you can remove it from the rear and blow it out with your natural air
COOLING

Dust on the condenser coils can cause overheating, observe safety precautions then clean coils. Switch off the unit before you clean them. If the problem persists, test the compressor for overheating. Overheating will cause many problems with cooling ability. Leave the unit unplugged for 3 hours and plug it in again. If it starts working, the compressor is probably overheating (Observe cautions with food going bad). A simple cause of the problem might also be that there is not enough airflow Lack of airflow is the number one cause of compressor problems and thus an owner purchasing another unit for hundreds of dollars when you can fix it for free. There should be at least several inches distance between the sides and walls/cupboards/ceiling.

Electrical

There is an in-line fuse mounted in the line supplying the power to the ice-maker. It is in the wire clipped to the side, change out this fuse asap. It is actually a 20-amp fused, associated with the grounded electrical supply.

PARTS

You may order parts very cheap from here

www.canadianappliance.ca/KBRS22KV.html

TIME TO CHANGE YOUR FILTER

While your on the back of the system, please check the filter. There is a filter in the back of the fridge in the upper right hand side. If you do not change it, it will slow down the frig and burn it out permanently.

Front left side has small puddle of water. front right side has smaller puddle. samsung rs2556sh. approx. 5 years old.

This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

The orange light is on which has not happened before. It has never being a noisy freezer so I can't tell if something is wrong or not. It is an old one (over 12years) i can't say if is defrosting as the...

the problem is over defrost in your unit and the orange light is the indication of that. there can be two possibilities for this problem i will explain 1) the evaporator coil in the unit is got blocked by the frost of ice.the ice cubes .so the coil is not getting heated and the fan of the evaporator is stopped functioning.the evaporator coil is located in the inner side of the freezer. 2) the another problem can be defrost timer. now i will explain what is defrost timer.the defrost timer is the part which controls the cooling and defrosting in refrigerator.it actually spins as the coldness in the unit.after the temperature reaches to certain coolness it spins back wards and defrosts.if the defrost timer is faulty it will not spin properly and all cooling and defrosting system of the unit will misaligned.if the timer gets faulty the cooling will reach till over frost and then the fan the coils in the unit will get blocked due to built-up and over current will be excreted by the unit to melt that ice.and in this melting ice procedure without defrost timer working properly the unit stops completely .it can effect any section lower or upper or may be both.so the defrost timer t needs replacement in this case.its like a mini plastic box .the color is mostly black or white or creamish.its located at the back of the unit in the lower side beside the compressor and compressor fan.and the cost of timer is near to $40.
-------
so the first thing i want you to try is unplug the unit from main power outlet and remove all the stuff in the unit from both refrigerator and freezer section.then letting the unit to defrost for near to 24 hours.after all the ice gets melts in 24 hours.clean all the water spilled in the unit and in the bottom of the unit. then reconnect the power cord to main outlet. and check out.because evaporator coils don't get faulty they only gets stopped from functioning due to ice buildup in between the coils.if the unit works proper that means the problem was ice build-up.but if the same problem repeats then its faulty defrost timer.
its easy to replace and fitted with some screws

you can get it from

thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

Ice maker not making ice

Water solenoid to ice maker not working. Check with ohm meter..should NOT read open
Water line to Ice maker frozen solid. Look at water inlet to ice maker....is ice present in line?
Evaporator coils frozen over with ice. Will cause water line to freeze and unit will slowly thaw.
Try unplugging the unit for several hours and see if it starts to cool normally again. If it cools normally then check heater element and Defrost Thermostat.

Samsung window air conditioner model aw05ncm7 icing up not cooling

After I opened the front of the unit and discovered it full of ice, I left the unit off until it defrosted, so to speak, after the ice had melted, I turned the unit back on to see what happened. It is working fine now, I'm not sure why it iced up, if this is normal or not, but after it melted the problem was solved.
