If you are willing. open up the amp and inspect the connections to the rca's on the side that is not working. check the solder connection by gently moving the rca input plug, see if you can tell if the solder is being pulled up. Re-solder the leads(MAKE SURE YOU DON"T SHORT THE LEADS TO OTHER PARTS OR CONNECTIONS OF THE AMP). If after you do that and it still does'nt work, check the transistors for damage. They're the ones that usually are against the amp housing, for heat dissipation purposes. If no visual seen, check them with an ohm meter and do a continuity test to see if one or more of the transistors are not shorted. You'll hear an audible when you check the leads. To help you out, test the side of the amp with the known good transistors and cross refference with the ones on the bad side. i know it's alot, but a little troubleshooting ain't so bad if it saves u money...

Eyp, most of the time speaker connections blow and fuses wont stop that from happening. They are there to stop the mainboard from frying and not working at all. try running rca splitters to the operational side of the amp. run the sub on 1 channel. you will start hearing a difference but both sides will work. if not, run the splitters from the head unit and bridging it. these are the cheapest solution i could provide

Pioneer box

Hi,

Thanks for using fixya!

I have had the same problem that you are having right now. I basically don't know how to start making my own sub box. Well, I chose the Bass-reflex type Box. This the best. Check this link out for a detailed overview of sub box making. http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1789/build-your-own-10-inch-subwoofer/

Have a great day.

I have a rockford fosgate punch 150 and it will power a small 5 1/4" speaker, but doesn't seem to push my 15" subwoofer. I am reading 4ohms across the sub so I'm assuming that it is fine and that there is...

amp is way too small to power a 15 inch sub. But you should get some sound out of it, not silence. You can use a 9 volt battery to test your sub, if the sub pops when the 9 volt is placed across it's terminals then it's ok. If it does not pop then your sub may be bad, or the coil may be frozen. (It can still read 4 ohms if frozen). If your amp powers smaller speakers fine, you know it's not the amp. If the sub tests ok, then verify your connecting it properly to the amp's correct bridging terminals.

How to buy the best subwoofer

There are several factors to what sounds good in a subwoofer. Your head unit, amp, enclosure size and enclosure type as well as where its placed. I tend to think that fosgates are superior to a lot of speakers but orion and JL are making some pretty impressive speakers too. Check the speakers need for airspace and make sure you can accomodate it. If you can, and the resonant frequency is more to your liking then move up to fosgates. Personally, I think the difference MIGHT be minimal assuming you are using the same inclosure, amp and head unit. Good Luck!

Amps

It comes down to Amperage and RMS, your best bet is to go in and talk to a salesman at a stereo shop. That way he can decide on what sort of power you want and how you wanna use the subs. But 1000amp AMP is probably a good start 4 channel of course. Alpine or SOny make some kick a$$ AMPS

Pioneer amp and sub problems

That's a 4-channel amp, not a 2-channel, which makes me wonder exactly how you have it hooked up to your sub. Is the LED light on the amp coming on? How many subs do you have hooked up to it, and how is it wired?
