Question about Ford 8N Tractor

My 8n idles very nicely but won't speed up

When I open the throttle on my 8n there is no response. It goes up to a medium-fast idle and that's about it. Sometimes it backfires but mostly has no upper speed.

Sounds like maybe a fuel flow problem.
Have you opened the main jet a few turns extra?
(The bigger of the 2 adjusters on the carb body with flat screwdriver slots in them)
Check fuel getting to the carb.....disconnect the fuel line at the carb and check for a good flow.While the line is disconnected unscrew the fitting the line attached to at the carb and clean that screen.
No flow?.....then.....
Clean the screen at the glass bowl at the tank (you will have to unscrew it from the tank to clean it)
How old are the points and plugs?Is the gap correct on them?

Sounds to me like the throttle plate is too far open at idle. Look for something hanging up and holding the throttle more open that it should be-like the choke like the auto choke or the fast idle cam screw set to far in. Look up the fast idle speed adjust procedure in the books and check out how yours is set up. Also, if the carb was all the way apart the throttle plate may be off center on the throttle plate shaft causing extra air to bypass the throttle plate. Good luck.

1995 cadillac idles too fast


Could be a dirty throttle body, faulty idle speed control motor, or vac leak.
The computer controls idle speed by opening the throttle plate much like you would with your foot on the gas pedal.

Usually a sign of a faulty idle air control valve, a sticky throttle plate, or a vac leak.
The computer uses the control valve on the throttle body to control idle speed by regulating how much air enters the throttle body and intake.

Fast idle


Base idle speed on a GM throttle body truck is not really adjustable.
The computer controls idle speed by regulating the air going into the throttle body via the idle air control valve.
If the idle speed is too high, the control valve could be faulty, the throttle body could be dirty and sticking open, or you could have a vac leak.

How do I adjust the carburator?


There are two needle screws that can be adjusted to make the engine run properly. Be certain that the carburetor is clean and the diaphragm is in good condition, and the fuel is new. The two needle screws mentioned above should initially be adjusted at one turn open from turned in all the way (lightly seated). Each of these needle screws performs different functions. One is for idle and throttle response (this screw is marked "L" and the other screw is marked "H". L and H are marked on the carburetor body and also on the plastic "shroud" near the adjustment screws. These screws are not interchangeable, being foolproof since the thread sizes are not the same. When properly adjusted the low speed screw (L) allows the engine to idle properly and throttle response will work properly. When the high speed screw is adjusted properly the engine will have correct power at full speed. Adjust the low speed screw so that the engine idles and when you squeeze throttle all the way to wide open the engine should not hesitate and should come up to full speed and when you drop the throttle it should idle nicely without stalling. Now adjust the high speed screw. Hold throttle wide open, holding it there while you adjust the high speed screw. If this scares you (be carefully so that the spinning chain does not cut you!) you may adjust the high speed screw at idle, turning it just slightly in or out. The high speed screw should be adjusted so that the engine does not run clean at wide open throttle but sputters slightly, slightly adjusted open from running clean to slightly sputtering. When under load (cutting a log) the engine should run clean. Good luck!

1. Throttle cables improperly adjusted, pinched or need lubrication.
2. Idle adjusting screw needs to be backed off.
4. Air fuel mixture adjusted too lean start with 2 full turns.
5. Intake system air leak.
6. Fast idle choke ramp is not releasing.
7. Broken throttle return spring.
8. Damaged diaphragm or slide.
9. Faulty MAP, TPS, ATS, O2, sensors or wiring/connector.
10. Multiple carburetors not in sync.

On small 1985 14 inch craftsman chansaw what is the high and low settings set on the carb


Not knowing the model, you can always look on the body of the carburetor, there should be an "H" for the high speed mixture screw and an "L" for the low speed or idle mixture screw. Both screws should be set initially 1 to 1 1/2 turns out from seat and then the carb. will have to be fine tuned from there. The high speed screw is adjusted when the throttle is in fast position, at 1 1/2 turns out you should have a slightly rich mixture so you may need to slowly turn it in until you hear the saw's rpms start to increase. You want to find a medium point between too rich and too lean. The low speed or idle mixture screw is set the same way just at idle rpm instead of full throttle, find a medium between too rich and too lean. You should be able to throttle form idle to wide open without any "lag" or "stumbling". You can also offset any rpm change at idle with the idle speed screw (not to be confused with the idle mixture screw). Hope this helps.

How do i set idle for 25cc gas trimmer?


look on the carb for two screw's sticking out they should have plastic guards on them just take them off and adjust the set screw's until its right it should smoke very little when right and not run very fast!!!

Shut off fuel to carburetor, drain carburetor. Open fuel and count to three then shut off fuel. Crank engine then pull choke for 1 second then push in. If engine starts open fuel valve at tank. Also try lowering float level in carburetor. Good luck.

Nissan Quest 2001 turns off when idle


Idle air control at base of throttle body. Passages could be plugged or idle hard stop needs adjusting.

Air Intake System Sensors Air intake system sensors include a heated resistor-type mass air flow (MAF) sensor and throttle position (TP) sensor; both supply data to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM also monitors engine speed.
Air Intake System Control Devices The idle air control (IAC) solenoid regulates idle speed by adjusting the amount of air allowed into the intake manifold. Adjustment is made by varying the duty cycle output by the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM will increase the duty cycle for added mechanical or electrical loads. The IAC solenoid is combined with the fast idle control (FIC) solenoid which is turned on when the air conditioner is engaged to help compensate for the additional load. The IAC valve must be replaced as an assembly with the FIC solenoid.
Fast Idle Control (FIC) Solenoid The fast idle control (FIC) solenoid (Figure 1) compensates for idle speed change caused by the operation of the air conditioner compressor. The FIC solenoid is controlled by the FIC relay. The FIC relay is energized when the air conditioner clutch is energized and the relay allows the FIC solenoid to turn on and let an additional volume of air into the intake manifold.

Throttle Body (TB) The throttle body (TB) controls the amount of air that flows into the engine through a single butterfly valve. The single butterfly valve opening is determined by the accelerator pedal. The TB is cast with an air bypass channel and houses several emission-related components for the powertrain control module (PCM).

Throttle Position Sensor (TP Sensor) The throttle position (TP) sensor responds to the accelerator pedal movement. The TP sensor is a potentiometer that transforms the throttle plate opening angle into output voltage and sends the voltage signal to the powertrain control module (PCM). In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle plate and sends the voltage signal to the PCM. Also, the TP sensor is used to determine the air intake when the mass air flow (MAF) sensor fails. This mode of operation is called Fail Safe.
The TP sensor integrates the idle (IDL) switch within the housing. The IDL switch detects when the throttle plate is closed and an idle condition occurs. The PCM is supplied with this input signal.
