    blueextc3221,

I have a HP Pavilion desktop s3400t. I do not know what version of I.E. that is on it. I purchased

the desktop in Oct. 2008. The desktop is not set off line. I have tried using Google with no luck.

I did a hard reset twice with no luck.

I can plug the internet cable into my laptop and it will work.

What other settings on my desktop that might be causing the problem?

    Randy

I tried all the suggestions from blueextc3221 but they did not solve the problem. I do not think the problem is the router but a change somewhere in my computer.

I can plug the internet cable into a laptop and it works. The router has 4 outlets and I have a second laptop running from the router with no problem.

I have a HP Pavilion s3400t intel core 2 desktop with windows vista prem. It has been working with the router since Oct. 08.

The message I get on the screen is "I.E cannot display the web page.

    What do you suggest.

I need more information.....Windows Vista does not have anything listed in Control Panel as a

Network Adapter. They list a Network & Sharing Center.....What am I looking for once I go there?

Click on tools in IE and see if "Work Offline" is checked. If so, uncheck it.

If not, then your internet connection is most likely not configured correctly. Go to control panel, find the network adapter settings and make sure they match your laptop.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yes, you'll have to go into Network and Sharing Center and then pick Change Adapter Settings.

Is it set to work OFFLINE? (clicking file on the pulldown menu will reveal WORK OFFLINE. If it is checked - click on it to remove the checkmark)
What version of IE are you running?
Can you browse with another program like Opera, Google Chrome, or FireFox??

There is a button to toggle the WIFI card on and off...is the WIFI light illuminated??.

Otherwise a hard reset is in order to re- establish your WIFI IP address.

Unplug the modem, router, and power down your PC(s).

Wait 5 minutes and plug in your router.
Wait 5 more minutes for the Modem to get full strength signal.
Now plug in router.
Wait again for the router to establish the connection.
Now power on your PC, and let it connect and obtain a new IP address.

Please accept this answer to remove it from the work queue and give the hard reset a try.
If it still does not work properly - return and re-post with the steps you have taken - along with a model # of your HP laptop.

Thanks!! :D

If the WiFi card is enabled - then the problem lies with the card - and not the settings.

The antenna for the WiFi card goes through the lid hinge, and may have become broken with use... or the card is just failed.

The WiFi card is a seperate device than the LAN card you are hardwiring into.

If the device is not giving a conflict error in Device Manager - the antenna or card is bad.

Is your main PC running Vista as well?

What is the Brand/model of your router - it may not be vista compatible.

Has it ever worked with the laptop?

Go to the HP Support site on the web and get yourself to the 'Drivers and Downloads" main page. Type in the p/n (product number) in the provided box and click go/arrow...whatever. When you're at your laptop's entry page for drivers, enter Vista as your operating system. If you're running 64 Bit W7 enter Vista 64. Almost all Vista Drivers work with W7. Look through the list of drivers until you find webcam/camera software/driver link. Download by SAVING to your desktop. Do not run the driver install from the HP/Compaq site. Double click the driver app icon on your desktop and follow the prompts. That should have you squared away.

Remove the HP Smartweb printing software.
==================================

1. In the Start menu select All Programs > HP Smart Web Printing > Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing.

2. Follow the onscreen prompts.

You can also open the 'Control Panel' from the 'Start menu' and open 'Add or Remove' Programs. Select 'HP Smart Web Printing' in the 'Add or Remove' Programs window, and then click 'Remove'.

If the changes you make in the Page Setup dialog of Internet Explorer are not reflected in the Page Setup dialog of the Print Clips window and vice versa ?

This is a known problem, and not unique to HP Smart Web Printing. When printing from the Internet Explorer File menu, select File > Page Setup and make your settings there. When printing from the Print Clips window, click the Page Setup button and make your settings there.

Now install the smart web printing software from the weblink provided below:

After removing the smart web printing software, please visit the weblink and download the HP Smart Web Printing 4.05 software from the webpage.
