This is caused by one of your pullys being out of line with the others, posiblly because of a bad bearing or one just not assembled correctly. I'd check this with a straight edge on the front of the pullys.

Testimonial: "Hi Rigger. Really appreciate your feedback - thank you. Checked out with suggestion made, no joy. Sorted out as cam belt was too tight, over tensioned."

SOURCE: Problem with Altenator belts Etude

the problem is not the altenator. you should have a idler pully and a self adjusting idler tensioner. if thes e go bad the bearings tend to seize up and break belts i would check these first chance you get the tensioner should be spring like and be hard to move back and forth the pulley part of it should spin freely with out makeing a noise. please rate this

SOURCE: the alternator belt keeps breaking on a 2000 mazda

i have a mazda etude/protege 2000 1.6 dohc.
i have the same problem with the belts snapping and the alternator generates a huge amount of heat. apparently this is a comman mazda fault.i'm still battling to cure my problem. there are no tensioner pullies on this belt,as it runs around crank and water pump. it has something to do with the alternator regulator or too much current drawing from somewhere??..

The alternator belt keeps breaking on a 2000 mazda 626 it has been replaced 4 times and all of the mechanics say they cannot find any prolbems no bearing prolbems no pulley misalligment

What they mean is there is no obvious problems. What else runs off that belt? Check for misalignment there. What makes it break? Does it happen after a long trip ( 2 hrs. highway driving) or at timed intervals ( every month, 6wks)?
Carefully check all the pulley's for sharp edges or bump outs into the belt. If you find anything use a small file and smooth them out. They can cut or pinch your belt and weaken it so it breaks over time.
Check the pulley alignment with the engine running where you can see all the pulleys and belts at the same time. This might mean crawling under the car. Vary the engine speed while you watch and take it up to cruising speed. You are looking for something to change, i.e a pulley to start wobbling. It could be a mounting bracket that bends at higher revs that needs to be replaced or strengthened.
Hope this helps.

Timing belt setting and my car iddle are out of form mazda etude

Your camshaft and crankshaft pulleys have to be properly aligned upon installation of the timing belt. The cogs on the belt, should fit precisely with the teeth of the pulleys. Your # 1 engine cylinder should be moved to "Top Dead Center" before installing the belt. This means no compression once the top of the piston cylinder reaches the top of the chamber.
