My asus desktop with windows vista will not start up. I keep getting a black screen that tells me reboot and select proper boot device or insert media? What is wrong?

It means your system is trying to boot from somewhere other than your hard drive. Make sure you don't have a CD in the CD/DvD Drive. Also when you boot your system pay close attention to which key it says you can hit to change the boot sequence or boot order and which key it says you can select to go into the Bios or Setup. Boot the system the go into the BIOS or Setup. Go to the tab that allows you to select your boot order. Make sure your Hard Drive is selected as the first boot device. Try rebooting after saving and making this change.

On the screen of my computer is sais " Boot and select proper boot device. Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" What do i need to insert to get my computer running?

Dear User,

Kindly enter into setup and change the first boot device to Hard Disk. Also check there should not be any pen drive connected and no disc should be in optical drive.

If still the issue persist then please boot the system with operating system disc and check if detects the hard drive and repair the operating system.

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media

its basically telling you that your master hard drive with O/S installation cannot be found in the booting system...Check if your master HD is not corrupted and see if your O/S still exist or maybe wiped out..
