Yamaha 450 Kodiak battery not charging, new battery, volt meter not showing any voltage going to the battery

Hi Brian, get a digital volt meter and start the ATV measure the voltage at the battery or at the alternator it should read around 14 volts when charging, if it reads 12 volts the charging system is not working, check or a blown fuse or broken wire, if you can access the alternator directly measure at that point. It takes 14 volt output from the alternator to charge a 12 volt battery

Do not get 24 volts from 120/24 volt transformer how test it?

Yes. There could be a couple of high limit safety devises in the circuit that can open the circuit to the gas valve. Pending your furnace type If your thermostat is calling for heat and the furnace tries to start your transformer is working. High limit safety controls are normally closed. If you have a open limit switch you will not have any continuity through it using an ohm meter or if you test it with a volt meter you will have 24 volts across the terminals of the safety devise. Other problems can be pressure switches, hot surface igniters and control boards. most newer furnaces have a control board that will flash a light code to help trouble shoot the system. Count the flash pattern and look on one of the furnace doors for the flash code directory.

How to do BSI reset on Peugeot 206

A meter will show a charge from an alternator but what charge was it . IF it is not 14.5 volts and DC volts not ac volts then the alternator is not working properly and that is why the light is staying on. Best have the electrics checked out at an accredited auto electrician shop.

How can i know if my voltage regulator is working, Im not getting any of my lights to work

quick check is to remove a battery cable while the motor's running. If the motor stays running when you pull off the battery cable, the charging system is functioning properly, if it dies then there is a problem with the charging system. Don't leave it off long, as this test is stressful to the circuit. You can test the voltage regulator by putting a volt meter across the battery posts to verify voltage. A fully charged 12 Volt battery should show slightly above 12 volts DC. With the engine running and the volt meter hooked to the battery, the charging system should be showing around 13.8 volts DC.

Battery discharges in about 3 days if not run.

it may have deffective diode on the charging system(the alternator). 14 volts is an over charge in a battery. ampere reading must be on what the battery designed.

Hello i have a 1990 harley davidson softail custom,i've own it for 20 years,i don't think its charging, battery is fairly new when its running and i remove the ground cable it stops dies out i put a test...

Marshall:

First, your battery MUST be fully charged to perform these test. You'll need a good DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) but an analog meter will work. Connect the meter across the battery with the read lead to the positive post and the black meter lead to the negative post. Put the meter's function switch in DC VOLTS, 20 VOLT range. Start the engine and bring it to a high idle. Your meter should show a slow build up of voltage over about a thirty second period of time. It should read 14.5-15.0 volts.

If not, you'll need to test the alternator. Unplug the regulator at the front of the engine. Look inside the connector in the engine case and you'll see two metal connectors. Put one meter lead into each contact. It makes no difference which lead goes to what connector because we're checking AC voltage. Now, set your meter function switch to AC VOLTS, 50 VOLT RANGE. Start the engine and bring it to high idle. You should read at least 30 volts.

If you read 30 volts or more at the alternator but less than 14 volts at the battery, replace the regulator. Naturally, less than 30 volts at the alternator, replace the stator.

Good Luck

Shop rider sovereign voltage indication. Brand new fully charged

hi Richard,

Does the scooter actually lose power after the 3 leds show ?

If it is losing power then a suggest to try some other batteries to confirm dodgy batteries, check the terminal connections etc.

If it does not lose power then the volt meter is at fault, if you can check the voltage before riding then after it shows only 3 leds , if there is a big drop, check the charger first to make sure the batteries are getting fully charged.

GeWiz.,
