Freezes up after long term use quits cooling - Heating & Cooling

Freeze plugs(welsh plugs) are in the sides of the block and heads and are there to allow for the removal of casting sand used in the mould when pouring the molten metal in. When the metal cools the sand is removed through these holes and a plug--welsh plug or freeze plug -is inserted to stop the coolant flowing out. The term freeze plug is a misnoma as the block will crack around the cylinder area (Being the thinnest part of the block) before there is enough force exerted by the frozen water to push them out. The best bet to prevent freezing of the coolant is to have a good anti freeze solution in the coolant at around 50% and you will have no freezing up problems.

A 50/50 mix is a ideal. Antifreeze has two benefits when properly mixed. It protects the coolant from freezing down to -40 degrees Fahrenheit and it helps remove heat from the engine. Diluted coolant in the short term is not harmful. Long term it could lead to the accelerated corrosion of vital cooling system components. Anti freeze also offers lubrication to the water pump. Less concentration will equal less lubrication. If your son is adding water than there is a leak. Adding water until the leak is fixed is fine as long as the temps don't get below freezing and the problem is addressed as soon as possible.

Your intuition is right, the ice buildup is why it's not cooling so well now: the evaporator isn't getting the correct air flow and surface area for heat exchange. The 1st thing you might want to check is to make sure that it's draining properly. The 2nd thing you might want to do is to check that the room is over 100 sqft. If you'r only cooling a tiny bedroom, the AC's basically oversized: your cooling already cooled air, so it freezes. The actual reason that is freezes is because the condition is just right for the immediate area near the evaporator to be at the saturation point. Think of it in terms of weather: warm and humid air collides with cool air and it begins to rain. The temperature drops further, and the rain turns into snow. One thing you could try to make it not freeze-up is to adjust the temperature setting a few degrees or change the fan speed.

He can't, although it's a good guess. However, The compressor can be tested and run with a special test cord most all techs have.
It allows the compressor to be run independent of the rest of the machine and is the definitive test. I would not go forward unless that test is performed. Compressors are too expensive.

nothing they are all the same ,just use pure eythelene glycol and no diluted solutions ,you cannot hurt the vehicle with neat antifreeze in it

Does it freeze on the menu ?

If so borrow rent or buy army of two accept ea's terms and conditions start the game quit then try mercs it should sort the problem
