Question about Washing Machines

Lost daughter's retainer in washing maching, how do I open it up?

I have a Kenmore 800 series washing maching, top loading, about 8 years old.

Lost my daughter retainer in the washer, found one retainer right under the agitator, wondering if the other retainer went under the agitator. Is there any way I can look under the wash basin and under the agitator?

I pulled off the cap on top of the agitator, but not sure what to do after that?

It should just pull off of the shaft underneath. This is a common problem with agitators that have not been removed in some time. You may need a second pair of hands to help get it to budge. Don't yank on it, or you may have it in your face(s). It's not likely that the retainer passed into the outer tub unless the retainer shattered.

Does the washing machine empty as normal? I am assuming it does and think the brushes on the motor could be worn. Hope this helps.

That means that eithere the membrane water lever switch is faulty (most common) or that the drain pump solenoid is stuck on open.

sounds like the heavy load broke the coupler. It is what connects the motor and transmission. it should still pump the water out because the bump is attached directly to the other side of the motor.

Kenmore wash machine will not spin

Eight years is getting kind of old. When the clutch or transmission goes out, it costs more to replace the part than to buy a new washing machine. You'd better plan a shopping trip rather than spring for that $100.
