Phillips rear projection tv turns off after 5 seconds

I just got a phillips rear projection tv manufacture date May 2003 model 55PW9363/17, chassis DPTV33/5 for free. The other owner said the convergence chips went out, and he replaced them himself, then nothing worked., I have repaired the sloppy solder job, and now the tv turns on then off after five seconds, it didnt do that before he tried to fix it. Should I try and find a I/C board for it complete, or replace the convergence chips in case they were overheated when they tried to replace it?

Hi,
I have the same TV with the same issue. Did you happen to resolve the issue? If so, would you mind emailing me at brodymaclean@gmail.com? I'm just starting to troubleshoot the issue myself.
Thanks in advance, Brody

My clue was the sound dying while the picture remained on-screen. That told me the audio chip was possibly suspect. If you have an o'scope, check to see if the audio chip is putting out DC on the right or left or both. The TV set will turn off if it detects this problem. Note: this is not the only reason it will shutdown; various voltage supplies that fail to hit the nominal voltages will cause the set to turn off too.

Here is a tip I learned from www.TvRepairKits.com.

Remove both chips...if the TV works again then either the soldering was still bad...or you have a damaged chip. The other possible options is a missing cable or some solder that has splashed on nearby pins.

Phillips/Magnavox 9P5544C102 white raster and shuts down

This denotes a problem called blooming the horizontal lines you see are called retrace lines this is caused by the increase in anode voltage which could be caused by an increase in HV section current which trips the overcurrent protection dircuit and turns the TV off.If you do not have electronics experience I would suggest taking the set to a TV repair shop.
