i tried it and it still did not solve the problem. Is there something else I can try?

  • klindell2 Jul 27, 2009

My main computer is cable and I have a router so my lap top can go wireless. I have already checked everything out with the router people and they said eveything is all set. They suggested I uninstall and then reinstall the browser but I got someone else to suggest I install another internet since Internet exployer was not working. I downloaded mozilla firefox and that is when I found the message on the proxiy settings

  • klindell2 Jul 27, 2009

I can try all these steps but I have already checked to make sure i have a connection from the router. It does say on my computer that I have a connection but when I try to access the internet I can't. Do you still think I should try what you said.

Thank you for your help. I was able to fix the proxy problem

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://192.168.1.1, some router uses http://192.168.2.1 or http://192.168.0.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name and the password (as provided by your router manufacturer).

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

3. Configure the router.

Since your Internet Service Provider is using a cable connection, please follow the steps below:

Set it to Use computer MAC address and click on the Apply button.

4. Configure the wireless settings.

a. Click on the Wireless Settings
b. Change the SSID to any unique name.
c. Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit".
e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number.

Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection.

f. Click Apply button to save the changes.
g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle.

5. Power cycle.

a. Power off the modem, router and computers.
b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking.
c. Power back the router and the computers. Check if it will be able to get online.

If you have wireless computers, you can connect them wireless to the router. Kindly follow the instructions below:

6. Connect wireless computer to the router.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 1, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.
b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
c. Click on the Advanced tab.
d. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
e. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Network. Please select your network and click on Connect. It will ask you for the network key.
f. Please type in the network key and then confirm it. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router.
g. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.
b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
c. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
d. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
e. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
f. Select your network and click on Connect.
g. It will ask you for the network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router.

If you are using Windows Vista, please follow the steps below:

a. Click Start then select Connect To.
b. Connect to a network window will show up.
c. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
d. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

From the above configuration, please check if you can now access the Internet.

Hi,

It does not seem to be a proxy setting error.
Please specify if this concerned computer is using wired or wireless connection. Also, please specify the operating system on this computer. Perform the following tests on the same computer

A. Click on Start—Programs—Accessories—Command Prompt.
B. In Command Prompt window, type in 'ipconfig' and hit 'Enter'. Note down the IP Address, Subnet mask & Default Gateway here. Also, mail us the same IP configuration.
C. Type ping 4.2.2.2 and hit ‘Enter’. Mail us the text that you see just below this command.
D. Type in ping yahoo.com and hit ‘Enter’. Mail us the text that you see just below this command.

Once I get this information, I would be able to help you further.

Hello,

Proxy setting deal with using another computer to get yours on the internet. Most home users not have to deal with proxy settings. If you are connected to your network but can't get on the internet the most likely cause is a DNS error. A DNS error is caused by a corruption in a set of numbers your computer uses to find internet addresses. Usually the DNS settings are set by your internet provider but can get changed by viruses and spyware or just if your computer loses power. I have a utility on my web site that we use in our PC shop to correct such errors. It is call Winsockxpfix you can get it by googling the name or going to our web site and downloading a copy at :

www.ccl-la.com/winsockxpFix.zip

After downloadng the file you just run it and it will reset your DNS, Proxy, flush your Cache and check your IP address. This should get you back on the internet.

How can I fix the error: "Proxy server not responding" on my Dell desktop?

Why are you running a proxy server? If you are on a home computer, sounds like a virus may be intercepting your traffic. Go into the internet settings and check the proxy settings. Write them down, just in case, then disable the proxy service.

Also, I'd install Malwarebytes to check for viruses and trojans.

ERROR PROXY INTERNET EXPLORER

Google Chrome's connection settings and security settings are controlled by Internet Explorer's settings.

It appears by your error statement, that the Proxy Server settings in Internet Options has been changed to by pass the standard default of No Proxy Server. Sometimes Email Anti Spam Software can change this.

This should fix you up regarding the Proxy issue:

1. Click on Start and click on Control Panel.

Depending on your control panel view of Categories or Classic View:
1. Look for Network and Internet Connections category then Internet Options.
3. If in Classic View, double left click on Internet Options.
4. When Internet Properties opens, click on the Connections Tab and then the button LAN Settings near the bottom.

If the option to Use A Proxy Server... is checked then un-check it and click OK. Click OK again and re-open Google Chrome and see how it responds.

Let us know if you have further issues by using the "add a comment" link.

Thank you.

I am a LAN user and i am using proxy setting for internet access

The reason for proxy setting not to change is that there is some security software that is blocking the changes that is done on the computer
if you want to permanently set the proxy, tr to boot to safe mode and then set the proxy unchecked and rebooot to normal mode..

If this still does not solve the problem then there is a registry fix for it
