Layer of ice on back of freezer

The freezer runs all day and night, and is fairly loud doing it.
The products that are close to the back wall stay frozen, but products in the door have thawed out. Also the refrigerator is not holding the set temperature very well. We switched the unit off, thawed it out and cleaned it, then had it start up again. The freezer and icemaker are initially working without problems, but after a couple of days, the ice starts to build up again, and the problem starts all over again. The thermostat seems to work because I can turn the compressor off by turning the thermostat switch to zero (=off).

We need to check the defrost heater part number WR51X10055 and the defrost thermostat part number WR50X10068
If the defrost heater is burned out you may be able to see it because it has a glass cover over the element. Here is a link to the defrost heater=>

WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Layer of ice on back of freezer - 60898a8.jpg Here is a link to my website=> http://servicepartstec.blogspot.com/ If you have any questions feel free to let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze You will need to unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear panel in back of the freezer and defrost with a hair dryer to be able to examine the parts. If you replace the defrost heater you should also replace the defrost thermostat.

Please note* your refrigerator does not have a defrost timer or adaptive defrost control. All defrost is signaled by the mother control board. Sea Breeze

Why do I have ice build up in my freezer

Ice build on the freezer box floor or White frost build up on the freezer box back wall (inside). Ice layer on floor means your drain line blocked. White frost layer means your machine is not going into defrost cycle.

Why is there a layer of ice on the floor of the bottom freezer of my refrigerator?

The water most likely is coming from a defrost drain blockage. Unplug and remove the rear panel inside the back wall of the freezer. See panel location #4 in the photo=> HERE
You will need to get that panel out of the way to see and clean out the defrost drain.

Making hardly any ice

Are the ice cubes being formed the same size as before? If freezer temperatures are increasing above 5 Degrees Fahrenheit in freezer this will slow down and at times stop ice production. Look around the rear wall of your freezer to see if a layer of frost is building. If yes this will indicate a defrost problem that in turn raise freezer and fresh food temperatures. Here is a Whirlpool Ice Maker Troubleshooting PDF You can find this info on this page HERE You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these documents. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is available as a free download. I will be here should you have any questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

Amana refrigerator ars2365aw refrigerator/freezer works perfectly for a day or two then stops cooling. Compressor and fans are still running. I will unplug it for a days, plug it back in then it will work...

if your freezers back wall has a layer of frost build up on it,that means the defrost heater or thermostat that controls this heater is bad,if theres an ice buildup on the evaporator coils it cant blow cold air into the unityou need to find out whats bad as it can no longer defrost, when you shut it off for a day you are defrosting the unit, then the frost and ice again cover the coil when you plug it back in

The freezer isn't staying as cold as it should. There is some frost on the rear wall-this is supposed to be a frost-free unit. Everything else seems to be OK. Please help!

OK this is whats has happened. Your freezer has frozen up. You need to get a large cooler, get your hands on some Dry-ice put all the stuff you want to keep in the cooler lay news paper on top and put the dry-ice on top of that. a 30qt cooler will take 1 - 2lbs dry-ice. Working as quick as you can get all the stuff out of the freezer, get the shelves out and get the back of the freezer off to access the freezer coil. (unplug it from the wall. You can use a hair drier and warm water thaw out the coil and be sure the drain in the back is clear and water drains out to the pan underneath. Look closely at all the wiring in there, look for a switch that mounts on to a coil it has a clip that will hold it onto one of the coils, be sure it is clipped on to the coil make sure no wires are broken Put it all back together leaving access in case we need back in to the coil. (do not put it all the way back together). plug it up and run it for a while putting some stuff back in with a cup full of water to check how fast it freezes. If it works for 4 days and all stays frozen all is well. If it quits next day -- re-post with results.

Maytag side by side fridge freezer leaking water

Your drain plug within the evap area of the freezer is frozen, turn frig off, let sit for day or two with doors open. Once all ice has melted then take rear freezer evap cover off and pour water into try and make sure it drains, if not then unplug drain. This is usually caused by a defrost heater bad or unit not going into defrost when it's supposed to, may be main board.

Whirpool Side by Side making loud humming noise from freezer side

I had the exact same issue last night. I would press on the back panel long enough and the noise would go away only to return this morning at 4am. I finally got up took all of the bins and shelves out and found an very large accummulation of ice at the bottom (floor) and walls of the freezer. The ice accummulation was causing the rattling of the tubes in the wall of the freezer (I don't know what you call them), but they were frozen over on one side. I found this out once I took the back wall panel off of the inside of the freezer. I also found the drain hole back there and it was frozen over solid, as well as my ice dispensing unit at the top of the freezer. This whole problem began when I turned on the ice maker 3 days ago. I used my hair dryer and hot water to clear all of the ice from both areas and now it is nice and quiet. Don't know if the acccummulation is due to some defrost switch gone haywire, but at least the rattling is gone and my freezer is back to square 1 for the time being and I saved myself a visit from the appliance guy in the meantime. Took me a total of 1 1/2 hours to do it all.

Hoshizaki KM-500MAH not making ice

Look at water solenoid valve when the unit is running in ice mode. Check to see if the water is shuting off completely. If the water valve does not close properly it will keep adding a little bit warm water to the ice a slow down the ice production.
