HP 5550 not printing from black ink cartridge. It acts like it's prionting, but it seems to be NOT making contact to the paper. Color cartridge is fine.

You need to make the procedure of head cleaning several times after replace the cartridge, cause sometimes some air get inside the print head in the replace. Sometimes you have to repeat the cleaning procedure 10 times. Do a test after each procedure of cleaning, and watch when it was enough.

Hello,
To fix this problem I installed a new driver and switched the paper settings to high glossey paper...so far it works...black was the only problem...color printed fine.

This could be the time to get dirty and work with your printer. Try to clean the port where the ink tank is sitting on. Start using a couple cotton swaps with a drop of plain water and wash and dry the hole. Make sure, there is a flow of ink into the hole. Test your cartridge and see if ink emanate off it, before you install it. Sometimes the plastic on the cartridge is not perforated on the seat, and there is not a flow of ink.

I am having the same problem with HP 5550. New black and tri color cartridge (replaced because the black ink stopped printing). Grey will print, but not black. Put in a different (used and working fine) black cartridge and it still won't print.

Any ideas?

My epson C120 is working on the glossy photo paper setting as you said JJ, but text will not print on any other paper setting, does anyone know what could possibly cause this?

I am having the same issue on my Epson C120(not printing text). Your tip did help JJ, but it wont print text on any other setting besides the glossy photo paper setting. Very aggravating for simple text docs. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell AIO A940 printer that wouldn't print black ink.

It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).

PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.

Good luck!
