Question about Kenwood VR-407 Receiver

1 Answer

Kenwood VR-407 always stays in Stereo mode

My front speakers are plugged into the A side. I hit the Listen Mode, but it never changes from Stereo. That seems to be the only choice. I set the Input Mode to all three different selections, but I still can't get it out of Stereo Mode. I know my DVD player is sending Dolby 5.1, but I can't get the receiver to play it properly.

You will need to go to audio set up and make sure it is set up to play with a center chanel if you have one as well as the surrounds. You can also only have side a speakers selected when trying to use surround. If you have b selected it will play in stereo only

This is a LOUSY response! The "B" speakers are the ONLY Place on this model to plug in rear speakers. So, if you must turn "B" speakers off to turn on surround sound, how do you suggest the signal get to the rear speakers? I would like someone who has actually looked at the Kenwood VR-407 to consider this question, so we can get a useful answer?!!?

I am connecting an amplifier to my VR-407 to accomodate more speakers I have installed throughout my home. Where do I connect the amplifier?

Connect the amplifier input to the VR-407 using the receiver's REC OUT jacks for the MD/TAPE input on the back panel. This is a fixed line-level output for recording, and will work fine for driving the additional amp.

I have had the Kenwood VR-407 since 2001. I also have a Mitsubishi projection TV, attached to the receiver. When watching regular cable TV (u-verse), I can not get sound from the rear speakers. I am using...

Most TV stations you watch don't send a surround sound mix so you won't get anything in the back speakers. DVDs generally all have a surround mix which is why it sends to all speakers. What you are experiencing is normal, Bob.

DTS option shows on the display when playing a DTS movie, but unit will only play in Dolby when trying to select listen mode...I can't select DTS mode

That is a typical function of the movie you are watching..changing the sound mode can "usually" only be done by selecting it on the disc, or by using the audio button on your player depending on the model.

Speakers not working

They will only have ambient sound (not same sounds as front speakers). Also for each input (video 1, video 2, dvd, tuner, etc...) you need to choose what surround mode you would like to use via the "Listen Mode" button. There is a little pictogram in the display which indicates which speakers are in use.
