Question about TruTech T650-DR DVD Recorder

1 Answer

I accidentaly set my dvd recorder to PAL and now the screen is black and I can't get the menu to come up so I can change it back. Is there some way to reset the device back to factory default?

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

currently connected with s-video cables. I do not have HDMI cables, but I do have RCA and Coaxial cables so I can hook it up either way.

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

    also have component cables

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

already tried that, didn't work, but i will try again.

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

    Nope, still doesn't work.

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

that's right, doesn't matter wich way I hook it up there is just a black screen. when I first changed the setting to PAL the screen went to black and white and started rolling but then just went black and thus my current situation

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

    still there?

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

I have a brand new magnavox 32mf339b/f7 hd tv, it is set to component input and the dvd recorder is connected via the component cables to the component input on the tv.

  • hector depina Jul 26, 2009

I do not know if the tv is PAL compatible or if it is how to set it to PAL.

I think Progressive mode is selected/ activated and causing no video out to your TV, that needs to be deactivated.
Press STOP key on DVD Recorder for 6 seconds to turn progressive Off.
Let me know exact model and brand if problem still unsolved.
Thanks.

OK, let me know connection setup of dvd recorder with TV.
Is it hooked with TV through HDMI or Composite video cable (yellow-red-white RCA pins)?

OK, please find Component Video Out pins at back of dvd recorder, its colors would be RED-GREEN-BLUE and if your TV has same Component Input, just hook 3 wires for video and make sure RED to RED, Green to green and Blue to Blue. Switch TV to that component input to get dvd recorder picture in TV. Once picture is there, change dvd menu accordingly to switch back to previous connection setup.
If you wish, let it remain on component video connection setup. Need 2 more RCA wires plug in for sound in TV.

If PAL is selected in dvd recorder, still you can have picture in TV though it would be Black and White and scrolling. Black screen shows dvd recorder switched to component video (progressive mode) so no video out in composite video (yellow pin) and S-Video out.

    Yes, I'm here.

OK, that means dvd player is still set on PAL and TV might lost / changed Input.
Please check what Input of TV is used with dvd recorder and set TV on that input to get back PAL rolling picture.
I think you also need multi-system TV that has PAL color system inbuilt to correct dvd recorder color system.

I think 32mf339b/f7 is only NTSCand has no Pal system.

We have a Philips DVD Recorder a Freeserve Digital box and a TV. Since adding the DVD Recorder we cannot tune in Freeserve at all and DVD's play only in black and white. Help Please. ...

Hi Jack,

And if you remove the DVD Recorder, everything is back to normal?

Initially, I would suspect that your DVD is set to PAL system and not to NTSC (or could be the other way around). Could you pls post back with the exact model number of the Philips DVD Recorder?

Additionally, could you pls detail how the Freeserve Digital box is connected to the Philips DVD Recorder and then to the TV? Pls indicate if you are using Video IN/OUT, S-Video, HDMI, SCART, RF IN/OUT.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Bought a direct dvd recorder Sony DRV-MC10 on Amazon.USA,namely imported from USA to Greece. I can only record fotos on the DVD. When trying to record on dvd through all input connections I get an error...

Yes, the problem with electronics is the US uses NTSC and most other countries use PAL, it changes how the tape head alignes with the tape. You have to insure the device you have is both (most devices are) so try and get into the menu settings and see if you have a PAL/NTSC video selector option. If so change it to PAL.

I can only record and play back in black and white.

siri,

for the black and white screen output of your DVD and VCR.

1) for DVD player: using remote control locate "setup" button and click.a dialogue box should appear indicating " audio setup" video setup" etc.....
2) select and scroll to "video setup". in video setup there should be an option to choose "AUTO" "PAL" or "NTSC"
3) choose "auto" then check if any change in screen color.

for VCR, locate a switch or button indicating "PAL" "Auto""PAL SECAM" "NTSC". same with the dvd choose and select "auto"

note: if you still have the manual for both VCR and DVD check the instruction with regards to video color setting.

cheers,
mark
