Question about Hayward Aquabug Above Ground Pool Cleaner Hay500

1 Answer

My Aqua Critter seems to get clogged up pretty quickly. We just opened a pool that had been closed for a year. There are a lot of leaves in it. Is that why it cloggs so quickly?

It most certainly is.
The simplest solution, is to sort of half the work for it, by collecting as much leaf litter, as you can with a net, before sending in the critter.
Also, a cover, will drastically minimize the amount of litter entering the water.
Have fun fishing:)

My 24' above groung pool with a 1.5hp pump and sand filter ssems to be losing prime when i hook up my aqua critter. If i unhook the critter the pump re-primes. Any sugguestions as to why?

Your hose either has a hole in it, at the sections at the waters surface where it is exposed to the air? Even a "Pin" hole will create the symptom you are experiencing.
Or... there is a clog in the unit itself.
It appears that you are either sucking in air, or the water flow is being blocked. The pump should pull water no problem through a vacuum hose or a suction style pool cleaner. If the pump loses prime, then "Water" flow is being restricted either physically are mixing with air.

My tiger shark pool cleaner will run for about 30 sec. then shut off. how can i fix this problem?

The pool cleaners impeller may be clogged or jammed with debris. Check and clean if necessary. The brush rollers or drive tracks could also be stuck. Check for debris and remove. It is most likely one of these problems if it is shutting off after only seconds of running. If these don't seem to be the problem, I would check your power source.

My aqua critter doesn't crawl along the pool floor when hooked up, what could be the problem?

There are several things to check when these pool cleaners are not moving forward properly or with adequate speed. First. check to make sure that you have enough water flow through the cleaner. Clean your leaf canister, hair and lint pot, and your filter system. If they are clogged/dirty, they can cause improper water flow. You will also want to check for a blockage in the cleaners throat and remove it if necessary. Finally, check to make sure that your wings and shoes are not worn. If they are worn, replace them and it should correct the problem.

Do you have a 'Earth' dirt filter system?

If yes - these system clog up very quickly when 'vac'ing - if can - when pool is v-dirty - 'vac' on waste setting (will loose lots of water but)
Also - get yourself some filter socks for the skimmer box filter - this will help heaps!

When can / if can - repalce filter system with a sand filter system - much easyer to use - easyer to vac pool - easyer to add chemicals - just easyer.
