Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I am attempting to delete a number of pictures from my computer: The steps which I have followed are: 1. On the DESKTOP I click on OWNER. 2. I select PICTURES 3. I open the file PICTURES and select a picture. 4. I right click on the selected picture and click delete. A message appears: FILE IN USE. The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program. I have spent at least FIVE HOURS, trying to get around this! HELP!!! I have opened every possible program I can find to see if the pictures are to be found hiding there. Your expert advice is extremely appreciated.

    I am a real newbie.

    The second and third options are beyond, I think, what I can get my head around.

    The first option about starting in a ?safe mode seems to be something I might be able to manage. I have seen the startup screen when I have switched off the computor incorrectly, with a message "start windows normally". I think I may have seen something there about "safe mode" and can try that. Please give me further direction.

    (If you feel, however, that as someone totally unfamiliar with this sort of problem, I would find things more simple with the first 2 options, please encourage me to follow the one you advise).

  • rigsby56 Jul 26, 2009

    I see the SAFE MODE option is your suggestion number one, not suggestion number 3.

    I will willingly follow direction as I have NOT been able to resolve this as an amateur.

  • rigsby56 Jul 26, 2009

    Having read 3 suggestions, I realise how completely foreign this area is. Thank goodness for experts!

  • rigsby56 Jul 26, 2009

    I have already deleted all of the pictures.

    When I found the pictures were still around, I changed the name of an individual picture, as you suggested i do with changing the file name.

    Having done this, I then tried to delete the newly named picture but still got the same message that the file was open in another program.

    The main concern I have is FINDING all the pictures to get rid of them. (Will I miss some areas)?

    Having thought they were all gone, I found a selection called "Recently Changed", and when I saw the pics there, ( I stupidly), clicked on them causing them to reappear, and now I have no confidence that I can make them dissapear ABSOLUTELY COMPLETELY.

  • rigsby56 Jul 26, 2009

    Using VISTA

    On the DESKTOP, I clicked on RECENT ITEMS, and one of the selections which appeared was "RECENTLY CHANGED".

    The file type of the pictures is JPEG

Hi there,

Have you deleted the pictures already? If not, I suggest you rename tha folder where the pictures where saved. In your case, I think the pictures were saved in your desktop inside the "owner". Just right click to "owner" folder then click "rename". Now, type a new name, you may just add additional character or completely change the whole name, then pess "enter". After that, please try to delete pictures that you wanted to delete.

Apologies for asking question, I'm just trying to figure out what is happening there. Also, will let us know the file type of you pictures? You will know that when you richt click to the picture then click properties. Below window will appear and the file type is in the encircled.

    Also, is your account/user on your computer an administrator type? You can check that by clicking on control panel, then user account. Then you can see your accoun name there. Please change that to admin type. Then try to delete the pictures again.

    Hi,

    Please restart you PC then log on. Don't open any programs, then follow below steps...

    1. Open the picture that you want to delete, if it opens in windows photo gallery (can see at top left corner), you can see a red X on the lower part of the window.

    2. Click the red X and that should delete the picture.

    3. Do step 2 to all the pictures you want to delete.

    If you can't see the red X, close all your open windows, pictures and programs. Go to the picture folder, right click the picture without opening it then delete.

    Regards,

    Jeep Brainy

Here are three options, any of which should work:

1. Reboot to safe mode then try to delete.

2. Open a DOS window and use the DEL command, it's much less picky.

3. Download drdelete and install it. drag files to be deleted to its icon. When you reboot it will delete them.

My Vaio is not reading blank DVD's. Thus i am unable to burn the data using the DVD. I have MATSHITA DCD RAM UJ870QJ

This is a common problem on Vaios, and typically comes from one of two causes.

Try the following two steps (in order)

Step 1 Delete Filter Drivers
======================
1. Click Start, type regedit and press ENTER.

2. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Right click the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} entry, choose "Export", select Desktop in the Save in box and type backup in File Name. Click Save.

Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file.

4. Highlight this key ({4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}), on the right pane, and then check if Upperfilters and Lowerfilters value are present. If so, please right click on the values and select "Delete" to remove them.

5. Restart the computer

If this works, then there's no need to do step 2 below

Step 2: Reinstall the DVDRAM
======================
1. Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
2. Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
3. Right-click the DVDRAM and click Uninstall.
4. Restart the computer.

Computer "hangs up" when displaying the Polaroid Album in PhotoMAX

This error or system hang-up is usually caused by: 1. the camera driver software attempting to read a corrupted photo; or 2. there are too many photo thumbnails stored in the PhotoMAX temporary storage area. In either case, the problem can be corrected by manually deleting the Fun! Digital 320 camera thumbnails from the Polaroid Album (using the Windows Explorer or My Computer icons). Follow these steps to delete the Fun! Digital 320 temporary files: Step 1 -- Locate the temporary photo files If you are familiar with Windows Explorer, simply browse directly to: C:\Program Files\Polaroid\PhotoMAX SE\Digital 320 If you are new to browsing the file system, follow these steps: 1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop. 2. Double-click on the C: drive. 3. Double-click on the Program Files folder. 4. Double-click on the Polaroid folder. 5. Double-click on the PhotoMAX SE folder. 6. Double-click on the Digital 320 folder. Step 2 -- Delete the temporary photo files Inside the Digital 320 folder, you will see many files, most of which will be bitmap image files. All of the bitmap files that start with dsc_ (example: dsc_005.bmp) must be deleted. To delete the files, you can either drag them into the Recycle Bin, or highlight each file by single-clicking on it and pressing the Delete key on the keyboard. To select multiple files at once, hold down the Shift key on the keyboard as you click on them, then press Delete. IMPORTANT: Do not delete the following files from the Digital 320 folder: * 320popup.rtf * DscDrv_Polaroid.dll * Polaroid Album.exe
