I powered down my PS3, and turned it back on about 20 minutes later. It started up fine, but didn't load the profile select screen. It froze before that screen was supposed to show up. My PS3 hasn't worked since. I tried cleaning it out (compressed air), but that didn't work.
Compressed air ?! well, i guess it must have danified something in your hardware..... try changing your Hard Disk (must be a Sata 2,5'' 5400rpm). else, you should take it to a support centre for verify possibly hardware damage .
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Your internal hard drive may be on its last legs. You might need to replace it with an off-the-shelf consumer laptop-sized (2.5") hard drive. Otherwise, you can access the recovery menu of the PS3 by turning off the console, holding the power button until the unit turns on and then off again, WITHOUT releasing the button until it does so, and then releasing the power button and holding it in again until you here three beeps in a row. Then you are to release the power button, and wait for the repair menu to start up. From there, rebuild the hard drive, and hope that fixes your issue. If it doesn't, take a trip down to your local electronics store and buy a hard drive from them. If you're lucky, they might even be willing to install it for you if you bring your PS3 along with you. Otherwise, it's very easy to install it yourself. Just go to Sony's website and follow their manual on replacing and upgrading a PS3 hard drive.
