Question about Canon PIXMA MP470 All-in-One Printer

2 Answers

Canon MP470 prints fine in black and red. But the blue and yellow colors (or comination thereof) will not print out on the page. Ink cartridges are fresh, although, remanufactured ones from Nukote at swapink.com.

Thank you for your comment, but the cartridge does not seem to be the problem. All the colors transfer freely to a paper towel (doesn't even need to be damp). BTW, this problem started while using an original Canon CL-41 cartridge. I replaced it with the remanufactured cartridge hoping that would cure things, but it did not.

The color cartridge valves are clogged, cleaning process it is ok, but remind, high temps kill the head print, I prefer put the cartridge head in window cleaner liquid, for one hour or two, this disolves the pigments and let flow the ink again.Dry with towel and look if the colors appears

Sometimes the remanufactured cartridges sit around for a time and the ink dries at the print head. Does the ink come out freely when you touch it on a damp paper towel? If not, this may be the fault. To clear the print head, I have heated some water in the microwave for 30 seconds and put just the print head in the hot water for a few seconds. If no microwave, use hottest available tap water. I have used a refill syringe to add a little pressure through the filler hole while in the water to purge the print head. I now refill my own, but have bought the same product and needed to purge them. I have the same printer. If this is not the cure , let me know, we can find the solution.

I checked the Canon website for suggestions. They are as follows: 1. Clean printhead nozzles. 2. Perform head alignment. 3. Check for shipping tape still on the printhead. These are very academic and you probably have tried these already. You can always try uninstall and reinstall of the printer, or update the drivers at Cannon website. Just things to try. If I can help...

I want to use black ink only and stop wasting color ink

Hi,
Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.

QUESTION FOR DON_FARR

whenever you print greyscale what actually happen is that the printer mixes the red, blue and yellow to give the output in gray scale. See if you mix red, blue and yellow ink in the right proportion it gives you very close to black. just try to print your greyscale with your black ink finished you will still get the same print quality as when the black has ink in it. Or find a way seal the nuzzle of the black in and print your greyscale. check what results.

Pictures coming out green

On a picture that you have printed, when you see an area of green, what color should it be? You probably have reduced flow of one of the "balancing" colors. Blue, Yellow and Red add up to Black. If your picture is supposed to be almost black and you don't have enough red, the color will pull toward the blue and yellow, giving it a green tint.

You did the right thing. Sometimes a bad printhead or a bad cartridge will cause a leak and will damage both. Good job!
