Fantom 200 GB issue - Office Equipment & Supplies

    I have Fantom driver 200 GB USB driven. When I connect it to my laptops ( XP and VISTA), it is not showing up in "my computer". I tried "disc management" as well w/o any success. I can't feel its spin.

    my laptops does recognize USB connection. I could see it in taskbar. so there is no issue with the cable. I could not hear the sound of any spinning.

    I checked with 3 laptops. one having XP and 2 having VISTA w/o any sucess. I could not see HDD in my computer. I tried 'manage disk" but no luck.

When you went to disk management, does it appear there as a removable drive? it could be that the drive maybe detected but just not assigned with a drive letter.

Try using other USB cable as well. If it has an option to be USB powered or powered through an adapter, try using the power adapter as your USB port may not be giving enough power. If there's no power adapter option, a Y-USB cable can be used so that 2 USB ports can be used to power your drive. Try disconnecting other USB devices as well so the USB port will dedicate all its power to the USB drive.

It could also be that the enclosure is the one that's defective. You may remove the hard disk inside and try to connect it to your PC via IDE cable but I won't recommend this if the device is still under warranty as it may be voided.

    If you already tried connecting the external drive to another computer and still have teh same problem, this is really a cable problem the problem here is the drive already is bad and you may need to send it back to the manufcaturer for repair or replacement....

Definately sounds faulty to me if it doesn't spin-up on other computers. I would have the drive replaced, repaired, or refunded by the manufacturer or shop if under warranty.

Try to go to the website and find related drivers for the fantom 200 GB drive. (CD/ Internet)
If this does not work

May be you need to try with a different USB cable.
Please check with any other cable other than the one you are using.

Check if the pins in the hard drive is bent or broken.

    Kindly try installing the drivers for the product from the internet and check for the spin. The hard drive must usually be detected without a driver but sometimes installing the driver helps.

    Even if this fails to happen then the hard drive itself has gone bad and would request you to go to a data recovery center to get the data recovered.

    Once this is done then contact the manufacturer technical support. They can help you by getting the hard drive replaced.

    In this case contact the Laptop manufacturer regarding the issue because there must have been some permission assigned or some kind of device conflict which is not letting the laptop to recognize the External drive.



    A reinstall of the OS can help because it will wipe out all the settings but before that you may want to contact the manufacturer so that change the settings for you or I can help you perform a factory restore to your system.

Fantom drive MDU1000 use to work, now when I plug into the computer, it says I need to format the drive, but I know there is almost a tb worth of data that I need to retrieve.


you may need a new case with new electronics
this happens when the drive either has a corrupted file or the controller electronics has failed.

Fantom 250 GB USB 2.0 makes clicking noise when turned on but computer does not recognize it. Not sure if unit is starting up. where can I get this unit repaired?

MY fantom drive TFDU20072 200 gb has worked for years, but today when I turned it on it doesn't show up on the hard drive of my mac. the light is constantly red with a blue flash every second or so. it...


Try the basics first. Unplug and let sit for a while before rebooting the drive. Then if nothing, get a copy of Disk Warrior and you may be able to regain access to the drive in order to save your data.

Won't turn on


If Windows is loaded, unplug the power cord and the USB (or Firewire cable). Turn the power on it. Plug the USB cable back in.

Make sure your drive isn't connected to a USB hub. There are connection problems with those.
