My Vizio freezes, the remote or the side buttons don't work. The only thing that works is unplugging the TV. Being disabled, this is a HUGE pain in the ****!!

SOURCE: vizio remote control not working

Hi, I had the same problem. My vizio remote for my 42 inch 2 month old vizio also seemed to stop working. Here's what I did: My vizio remote (like most remote's nowadays) was designed for multiple components (tv, dvd, vcr, etc). All you need to do to make the remote work again is set it back to tv. Now, the confusing thing about vizio remotes is that they actually have TWO places where you can switch the remote to the appliance you want to control. One is on top of the remote, the other is on the BOTTOM. Switch it back to TV using the BOTTOM. My remote had stopped working because I had inadvently switched it to another component on the BOTTOM component switch.

SOURCE: Vizio VX32L The screen goes white,no response from buttons

G'Day!

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair issue. You won't be able to address the problem with troubleshooting. There is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty, this will cost you nothing. If you're not under warranty the cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please post a comment if you need additional assistance so that I can help you further.

SOURCE: VIZIO TV Black screen. Cannot turn off TV without unplugging.

I had a similar problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. I didnt hear an arcing sound though. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound. I would check the ceramic fuse first on the board that gets power from the plug.

HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com (you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

How to restore Vizio sv472xvt remote to factory default settings

I know this is obvious, but make sure you press TV on the remote and then hit the menu button. It should still access the tv menu as long as there’s a menu button on the remote the remote is in fact the original Vizio Remote Control that goes to that particular TV.

Also, you can remove the batteries from the remote, then use a wire or anything that conducts electricity to touch the positive and negative terminals together- these are the spring type and/or flat components that the batteries actually touch. Hold a piece of wire to each side, (+) and (-), at the same time and this too can get rid of stored data on some remote models. Aluminum Foil works well instead of a spare wire if you don’t have one within reach.

I hope this helps, along with the other great answer already posted.

I have only one problem with my vizio tv, is that i would freeze on a channel, the remote will not work, the button on the set will not work, the only way i get it to work again i have to unplug the set...

In most cases, the mother board is the problem. The main processor on the board is starting to fail or it's over heating. The newer TV are no different than a computer now.
I would use the warranty from Vizio if still covered. It's possible a heatsink has come loose or the TV needs better air flow.

VIZIO VS42LFHDTV10A Freeze Up

Just unplug the comcast and see how the tv works, if the TV works fine, then you will now the trouble is not your TV.

It is not likely to have the same issue in the new TV, just unplug everything and use a dvd to see how it handle it.

47" Vizio Flat screen HD LCD freezes up and remote will not work.

could it be Ch 9's digital signal is not broadcasting right? what is your refresh rate on your tv? 60 or 120hz? if its 120hz, then its more then likely the digital broadcast, if its 60hz I think its your tv can't keep up with their signal that may be at 120hz. Make since??
