It probably is bad capacitors on the power board, try just replacing the capacitors if you want to save money. If they look swollen than that is your problem.

You only need a PSU board if the back light inverters are combined with it. Otherwise look for the inverter board. To be sure it's defective, when the picture goes off shine a flashlight on the screen to see if you can spot movement from the program on the screen. If you can see movement then the inverter board needs replacing. If you can't see any movement then the T-Con board is bad. t con board on the back of the screen will need replacing, its the one with the wires going to it from the main av board to the screen. the chip can become damaged due to heat or even come away from the board. if its working when you bag the board it could be a lose connector or the connections that is soldered to the board have come away and will need soldering back on.
I just repaired this identical problem on the same model TV. You have a bad power supply (also known as an SMPS). The board is model FSP271-4F02, and is about $75. Unlike the main board for this TV, you can find the power board relatively easily. Try shopjimmy, for example. Replacing the board isn't too difficult if you have a reasonable mechanical ability, have some tools, and are careful.

Hello, it sounds like your inverter board is goin out on the set, when you change channels if you notice on almost any TV the screen goes dark and the new channel appears, it sounds like you are not getting enough power out of the inverter board to power up the backlight enough to come on. This is why the sound remains because everything else works fine and the sound is connected to the main board.
If this RCA TV has a Chassis number of ITC222 then you need to call a tech to swap out the deflection circuit board for a new or rebuilt board. This RCA Chassis is a TV Techs worst nightmare to repair.
