SOURCE: invacare auriga looses power
Hi. Most probably its the throttle pot ( Wig Wag ) thats causing the problem. I am an Invacare service agent and I have changed these many times for this very reason. Also check motor brushes are not worn down or jaming. Good luck. Neil.

Hi. I have had a few scooters that have had this problem after sitting for a while. The brake lining is stuck to the body of the brake assembly. When the brake is energised by the controller, it can't release.
De-clutch the machine like you did, and try rocking the machine back and forth. If this doesn't work you might have to have a new brake assembly fitted.
The wheels turn in opposite directions, because the drive is through the differential unit in the rear axle. Even a car will do this if the driving axle is raised in the air.
I have also had a few cases of stuck motor brushes in these machines, but from your description, I would say it is the brake assembly.
Good luck. Neil.
Testimonial: "It was a frozen brake. I took the brake to pieces,a lot of little springs spacers indent springs and rollers jumped out. Cleaned all components and spent a few hours figuring it out for re assembly. Working fine now . Thanks for your prompt and accurate reply. PeterR"

SOURCE: where can i buy replacement carbon brushes for
Since these are special made electric motors, you are going to have to go back to the dealer that sold you the machine and have them order the parts (brushes) for you. The PDF file for these scooters are found at:
http://www.invacare.co.nz/***/content/328/349/auriga-spare-parts-june2010.pdf
page 6 will give you the parts number.
If you are mechanically handy(I suppose so as you intend to replace brushes), then you may want to try a maintenance trick first of all. Generally these brushes are are not used up in a DC motor, but fail due to the carbon build up on the armanture of the motor shaft or the wear of the brushes have become so concave that they are making only slight contact on the armanture. If you can, pull the end off of the motor and lightly clean the armanture contact. Clean with some alcohol. Then examine the concave of the brushes, and using an emery board file the points of the arc in the brushes so that you change the deepness of the arc, bringing the center closer to the contact. re-assemble and test.

Invacare Meteor Hillclimber. I have replaced the old batteries with 2 x FullRiver 12v 65Ah batteries. The charger is the original one supplied with the scooter by Invacare, 24v 8amp. I returned the batteries to the supplier for testing as they appeared not to be fully charging. The batteries tested out to be in perfect working order. It was suggested by the battery supplier that for reasons not known to them that the batteries were not being fully charged. My charger is showing that it is fully charging the batteries through the three stages. It has always been my practice to put the scooter on charge after every use. I am thiking of getting the scooter checked out by an auto electrician. Hope you can shed some light on this problem. Cheers Brian
