cubic capacity is pye X radius squared X depth
that is 3.1416 X 5.33 squared by 1 .3 ft
that is 3.1416 X 28.408 X 1.3
that is 118.69 cubic ft
1 cubic ft = .0370 cubic yards
multiply 118.69 cubic ft =4.39c yards or you can convert the feet to yards first and then apply the formula
so that is 3.1416 X 1.77 squared =
3.1416 X 3.13= 9.83 sq yards X .43 yards =4.22 cubic yards
the difference is from how many decimal points you go to
for each number
Assuming that 20x12 means 20 feet by 12 feet, then you take the three values in feet - 20, 12, and .333 (4 inches is 1/3 foot).
Multiply these three numbers to get the cubic feet:
12 x 20 = 240
240 x .333 = 79.92
Now that you have 79.92 cubic feet, to get cubic yards you divide by 9 since there are 9 cubic feet per cubic yard.
79.92 cu. ft. divided by 9 = 8.88 cubic yards (round up to 9).
We need to convert everything to a common unit, so let's convert the 18 inches into 1.5 feet.
Volume is length times width times height.
v= 132 x 2 x 1.5
v= 396 cubic feet
To convert to cubic yards, imagine a yard cube. It is 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet for a total of 27 cubic feet.
v1 = 396 cubic feet/27 cubic feet per yard
v1 = 14 2/3 cubic yards
Hi Paula:
A mathematical logic question.
You need to get all of the measurements in the same units.
- A cubic yard is 1 yard x 1 yard x 1 yard
- equals 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft
- equals 27 cubic feet,
so once you have the volume of the pipe in cubic feet, you divide by 27 to get the volume in cubic yards.
- Volume of a cylinder (the pipe) is the cross sectional area X length.
- Area equals Pi x r squared.
- equals 22/7 x 1 x 1
equals 3.14#####
times length (20)
equals 62.857### cubic feet volume
divide by 27 cubic feet
equals 2.328### cubic yards.
- The answer is always the easy part.
- what is important is knowing exactly what the question is, and
- determing what calculations are needed to get the answer.
Wasn't that better than if I'd just said 2 1/3 cubic yards?
Cheers
Hi Bob:
1 cubic yard is 3ft by 3 ft by 3 ft.
3 times 3 times 3 equals 27, so
1 cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet.
2 1/2 inches divided by 12 inches equals .2083333 feet
196 square feet times .208333 feet equals 40.83333 cubic feet
40.83333 cubic ft divided by 27 cubic ft equals 1.5123456 cu yards.
Ta Da!!!!
Imagine or draw a cubic yard. It has a length of 1 yard, a width of 1 yard, and a depth of 1 yard. Now each of these yards can be broken down into 3 feet, since there are 3 feet in a yard. Thus, a cubic yard has a length of 3 feet, a width of 3 feet, and a depth of 3 feet. We have 3 x 3 x 3 or 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard.
Next, take 2106 and divide by 27. The answer is 78 cubic yards.
