MY SON DOES HIS LAUNDRY IN MY DUET. I HAVE ALLERGIES. ALTHOUGH I RUN A LOAD OF CLEANING TOWELS WITH BLEACH AFTER HE USES THE WASHER, I STILL THINK I NEED TO CLEAN OUT THE WASHER BETTER. I AM VERY ALLERGIC TO CAT DANDER AND CAT HAIR. CAN I RUN VINEGAR THRU OR WILL IT HURT WASHER. ANY SUGGESTIONS BESIDES TELLING HIM TO GO WASH HIS CLOTHES SOMEWHERE ELSE?

Re: CLEANING OUT CAT DANDER ETC FROM WASHER
Quenie, vinegar will not harm your washer at all. Place it in the detergent side of your dispenser and run a Hot wash cycle. Don't mix chemicals, though... if you choose to clean your machine with bleach, for instance, don't use additional cleaners along with it. Vinegar only, bleach only... you get the point.
You may want to run a "water only" Hot wash cycle with bleach (no clothing/towels) after your Son has finished his laundry. This may help alleviate your allergy problem.
For regular maintenance on your washer, you ought to try something like this. It'll keep your washer smelling great.

Any washing machine will grow mold & mildew when there is moisture in it and the door is shut. When you do a load of wash, the smell transfers to the clothing. To eliminate it, run a load just water & chloring bleach. This will kill the spores. Adding a little color safe bleach to each load or leave the door open when not using the washer will keep the problem from coming back.
You are speaking the truth there , the really sad part is all brand front load washers will have mold/mildew build up due to the rubber boot seals they all use , the only way of fixing this is soaking and scrubbing with bleach which is not a fun job to do.
until they can figure out how to get all the water out after use we will have to deal with mildew.
top load washers use gravity to drain most water out so they dont have this problem.
It is not the dryer causing the problem. We get the brown streaks on our white clothes before putting them in the dryer. I have ruined more white clothes over the past six months with this Duet washing machine!!! We also don't use bleach so I don't think it is the HE/Clorox combo that somebody mentioned earlier. Anybody know what exactly is causing this yet... before I throught the moldy stain causing Whirlpool duet out?
Increasing the water is not possible and would not help anyway. The odor is from bacteria. To kill the bacteria run a load without clothes on the HOT wash setting and add a cup of bleach to the soap dispenser. In the future to prevent it from returning use the hottest water allowed by the clothing care tag and use bleach whenever possible. If you don't like to use bleach or hot water you may need to repeat the cleaning once a month. Also make sure you are using a HE detergent. Non HE detergent can suds up and the suds may not rinse out with the water and can create an odor.
check a few things , make surer your using an HE detergent, Liquid better then powder. water level rarly a problem with theses machines( they'd give a fault code if so).lastly they just placed a product on the market in the last few months . AFFRESH tabs, found at major appliance chains, specifically designed for cleaning out theese machines.
take the soap drawer out and clean inside were it pushers into but also check your door seal lift up the lip if you close the door after each wash then what happens is the damp left in your washer on the door seal starts to go mouldy which then needs replacing you cant clean this stuff of totally
