Main burners in my old utility gas heater will not ignite

A common problem with these are the safety limit switch trips, either because the fan did not come on and over heated the unit, or the unit got shut off while in heat mode, causing the switch to trip. These are usually located around the top/side of the unit heater behind a small access panel. It should be resettable by pushing in the small button in between the two connections. Hope this helps!

The heater in the car does not heat up any ideas what the problem could be?

Low radiator coolant can cause the problem. As here's not enough coolant running thru the heater core, to heat it up. The number one reason though, is a clogged heater core. If that's the case, you will have to drain the entire coolant system and flush it with radiator flush. This doesn't always solve the problem, as it depends on how clogged and/or rusted the heater core is. Depending on what type of vehicle you have, they can be a bear to replace.

Pilot light is very small on kozy world ventless wall heater

Probably dust in the pilot safety ODS chamber. I like to flush the pilot with rust buster. but shop air will work. More here

I have an Endless Summer (Blue Rhino) patio heater with model number 153100 and the pilot flame is not strong enough to keep the thermal coupling open. What has to be done to fix that?

The pilot jet may be clogged. If there is a flame, it must be small and blue. A large flame that is orange or yellow tipped means that there is a partial blockage in the pilot assembly which needs to be cleared. The pilot flame must also touch the thermocouple in order to heat it correctly. Make sure that the pilot jet and thermocouple are positioned correctly. If you have an extremely small pilot flame, try repalcing the regulator and hose as the regulator may be failing.

I have a 45,000 btu garage heater made by heat star. some heating contactors say that the heat exchangers are prone to cracks. is this true? i work for the nat gas utility as a service tech, and right now...

Hi, all heaters are prone to cracks, but this unit is only 2 years old. You should be able to look at the heat exchanger above the burners and see any cracks or rusted out areas. Take a screw driver and push on it to see how strong the metal is. Normally a unit will develop cracks at about 20 years plus. If your tester is reading no carbon monoxside, you have nothing to worry about. If you are concerned, you can mount you a c/o detector near it for the future, but this is not true about the Heat Star units. Take a strong light and look inside and you can see if it is cracked or swollen, rusted out, or the metal is weak. I don't believe you have anything to worry about!! Hot air wont come out when fan is on medium or high,is it a door problem

Is it for a car? I know older lincoln town car have these problems all the time. if you feel heat underneath where the heater core is that means the hot water is getting there, but if the blower fan doesnt provide hot air, then it is a flap not letting the air go through the heater core fins. Inoperable heater problem can also be caused by the valve not opening. These valves are usually vacuum operated. Also sometimes the heater core has acumulated too much rust and is blocked. Back flushing can solve clog heater cores most of the time.

The heating system has a number of burners which must ignite as soon as the heater starts. When one or more burners does not fully or partially start properly, unburnt gas fed to that burner accumulates in a small pocket until is is eventually ignited causing a small explosion. This condition is caused by restricted/blocked burner jets. The gas jets are small and easily fouled by spider nests or other items sucked into the system. You will need to have the heater serviced by a qualified gas plumber.

Fine for about 2 minutes, then pops and sputters, tried new tank.

The filter in the regulator is most likely clogged or just about. It is located inside the small nipple that goes directly into the bottle. It looks like brass shavings. You MIGHT be able to clean it with carburator cleaner but usually, they need replaced. The slightest bit of moisture getting in will do this.

Lakewood 792/JR heater running w/o heat

Hi Spybotics. I have the same problem and I traced mine down to a burned out over-heat fuse link. Check out my recent post. My guess is that you are having the same problem as me. It's not hard to tell - just take off the rear panel and test the link (looks like a small resistor in line with the element) with an ohm meter. Open circuit means burned out fuse link. DO NOT bypass the link, as an extreme fire hazard will exist without it.
