My Toshiba P25-S670 Video Card

My Toshiba P25-S670 ( PSP26U-00DJ8RB ) with windows media center edition has crashed. All I had was a black screen. So I ran the ( Toshiba Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD Satellite P25 Series Disk ). After running the recovery disk, there was no improvement it would start up occasionally with either a 640 X 480 resolution that can’t be changed to anything else, or a blank display with a solid black screen. The operating system seems to be loading properly because even with the blank display I can usually reboot by pressing the windows key then the U key to turn off the computer, and then the R key to restart the computer. When it restarts its usually with a (solid black screen about 99% of the time) “you can’t even see the mouse curser”. Once in a while it opens in 640 X 480 resolution and cannot be adjusted. It also has vertical lines across the whole screen whenever the display is not solid black.
I think it’s probably the video card. ( NVIDA GeFORCE FX ) What do you think? If it is. How big and expensive a job is it to replace the video card. And is the video card a part of the motherboard? If it is. How big and expensive a job will that be? This is still a great computer and I am not ready to junk it yet

I'm not positive, but I believe your video adapter card "IS" part of the motherboard. This is not something you want to undertake unless you are familiar with the proceedure. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

The monitor on my Toshiba P25-S5093 does not have any display of any kind; all black. I have display using external monitor.

Hi,
Does the display show anything before you enter windows? If yes, then press the key to transfer video back to your original screen once you enter windows. It should be the function key "Fn" + F5 - F8. looks for the icon which shows a monitor or says "CRT/LCD".
If it doesn't show anything before you enter windows I'm afraid your screen needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Hi:
One way to determine if just the screen is bad is to connect a computer monitor to your laptop and toggle the display to it, and if you have a picture, the lcd or inverter is bad on your laptop. Usually all you have to do is hold down your function key and then hit the display mode key, on my laptop it is F8

Toshiba satellite p25 s509 lapto video output problem im using a

What type of Video Card in in the laptop?
check the laptop case on left side of keyboard sometimes stickes are there saying what type.
I have seen ATI Mobility cards in laptops that have all the software working on the machine properly, but the display driver is either bad and cirrupt and causes the machine to reboot, or its a fualty video card that can cause the machine to crash.

Easy way to check, boot the machine and as windows XP boots press the F8 key (this enters safe mode) when menu appears choose safe mode with networking. and let it continue.
if it boots up and continues to a display and doesn't crash, the video driver is bad.
then just uninstall the video driver, then go to the nabufacturers website and download a new video driver for your model laptop.

My toshiba satellite p25 s670 suddenly stops what can I do

boot it to safe mode, then run a system restore a week before the issue occured. if there is any resource in conflict with what was installed, this will be removed and problem resolved.

if that did not help, open the laptop up and remove the memory and hard drive, then re seat them properly.

If you can boot to a windows CD, you can try a "repair installation" of Windows, this will let you reinstall windows on top of itself, without harming your data:

You don't have a USB thumb drive plugged in do you? Remove any discs ( CD, floppy etc ) & check the BIOS boot order to start with.
