To view extra content on some blue ray disk you need an USM1GH Memory Vault unit connected at the back of the blu ray unit.

To use features on certain BD the player may need a Sony USM1GH like the one below:

I putting my blu-ray disk - 8d1d645.png

Note: If the Blue Ray does not read any disk , then the problem is not the external memory, in that case call Sony ringing the number listed on the owner manual.

If you are having problems playing a blu-ray disc is your blu-ray player, try the following.
1) Check the firmware-make sure you have the latest version. If your BD player uses the Xross media bar, following these steps:
Press the Home button.
Select setup
Select System Settings
Press the Enter button on the remote.
Scroll down and select System Information and press enter.
The Firmware version will appear on the screen. Write this number down and go to esupport.sony.com to see if you have the latest version. Just follow the instruction to perform the update. Check out this video.....it will walk you thru the steps I just described.

2) If your BD player doesn't have internet connection, you can check the firmware version by:
Press the System Menu button.
Highlight Setup and press the ENTER button.
Highlight Video Setup press the ENTER button
Highlight TV Type and press the ENTER button
On the remote, press the Blue button
The current firmware version of the player will display. Write this number down and go to esupport.sony.com to see if you have the latest version. Just follow the instruction to perform the update. Check out this video.....it will walk you thru the steps I just described.

3) Some BD players requre that a USB memory device is inserted in the EXT slot of the player prior to playing the movie. It's recommended to use at least 1GB. If you already are using one and run into a disc not playing, try removing the USB device and plugging it back in.
Here's a few more things you can try.
1. Reset the BD Player:
  • Remove the disc from the BD player.
  • Turn off the BD player.
  • Unplug the power cord of the BD player from the electrical outlet.
  • Let the player remain without power for one minute.
  • Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  • Turn on the BD player.
  • Insert the disc into the BD player
2. Make sure that the Parental Control settings are not set to "On".
3. If the BD player supports the BD-Live feature, set the BD Internet Connection setting to "Do Not Allow" and delete any conflicting BD-Live date from the BD/DVD Viewing Settings menu.

My BD530 player doesn't play all movies clearly. Some come cover good others re all snowy

When properly connected to a High Definition display or TV, Blu-Ray Disks (BD) should play crystal clearly. Inserting an old "non-Blu-Ray" disk (or the original "DVD") in the Blu-Ray player will display a comparatively "fuzzy" picture. This is the difference between High Definition and Standard Definition. A "BD player" can not "upgrade" the picture quality on DVDs to that of a BD or High Definition picture.

Rent, purchase or choose Blu-Ray Disks (BD) whenever a choice is offered to view the High Definition version of a movie or video. Selecting the DVD version will provide the lower quality or Standard Definition version of the same movie or video.

Check the covers or disk itself to determine if the movie or video is in DVD or BD format. That will tell you what you can expect for picture quality.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply - thank you.

Hi there , I am trying to watch Planet Earth blue ray disc on lg bd 390 and for some reason any of the discs does not load (there is 6 of them).i thought it was a bad product and I asked for an exchange...

Try disabling BD-Live.
On the LG BD390 go to the Home screen then select the following:
Settings-->Network-->BD-Live Connection
You have three options: Permitted, Partially Permitted (default), and Prohibited.
Change the setting to Prohibited.
Now reload the disk and try again.
If that doesn't work try clearing the BD Storage (memory about the disks you play).
Again from the Home screen:
Settings-->Others-->BD Storage Clear
I think changing the BD-Live setting will stop the problem you're experiencing. If that works, you could also try changing the setting to Permitted.
I am experiencing issues with some of the very latest Blu-Ray disks, such as Avatar and Date Night. I don't have enough experience to be sure yet, but so far the evidence points to a new setting or standard in the disk industry that does not play well with the Partially Permitted default setting on the LG BD390 and a few other Blu-Ray players.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

During upgrade download my electicity cut causing

According to the manual if you press the( >>I ) button on the front of your unit for more than 5 seconds without a disk inside it will set everything back to factory. It say don't use it unless necessary. When the factory default settings are restored all the user data stored in the persistent memory will be deleted. If its not working I don't see what you have to lose.

I had the same issue. it is not recognizing the disc. I called in and I am having to send it in for servicing. The message you are getting is because the only option you are getting is the BD data one and not the one to play the disc.

Not playing blu ray discs

Did the Live Chat with Sony, and they said if you reset the unit (unplug it for a minute and plug it back in) that should fix the issue. If it does not (in my case, it did nothing) the unit needs to be sent in for service. I'm taking mine back to the store in hopes for a refund. Good luck!
