Hello,
This problem is quite common in the LP640 and the LP540.
I have repaired about 75 of them with this symptom and every one had the same solution.

There are 2 power supplies in the projector. the issue is with the one right the rear panel. If you have moderate electro mechanical skills you can repair it. You will need to remove the power supply to perform this repair. You will also need a good temp regulated soldering iron (and know how to use it well) You will also need an OHM meter. You will find 4 surface mount diodes near one end of the power supply board. these diodes are approximately 3mm X 5mm and black in color. One of these is shorted!! use the ohm meter to measure each one. the shorted one will measure very differently than the other three. one of them will be less than 10ohms. you can buy a replacement diode from DIGI-KEY if you call them you can give them the part # on the bad diode and they can supply you with the same part or an equivalent substitute.
You will need to remove the top board and the screws on the rear of the projector (even the ones on each side of the "D" connectors)
The flexi cables that connect the LCD's to the main board as well as the 3 connectors they fit into are very delicate! Again if you don't know what you are doing you can cause much damage and possibly total the projector. anyway the LCD flexi cable connectors have a very small brown piece that runs the length of the connector opposite from the side the flexi cable is fitted into. This brown plastic pieces are part of the clamping mechanism that holds the cable in. to release the flexi cable the brown plastic piece hinges up toward the flexi cable releasing it. This brown part moves easily so do not force it! anyway if all this is above your skill level have someone else who is qualified do it. You do not need a new power supply! the Diode is about $0.78 and a power supply is closer to $150

Good Luck!

InFocus LP540 Power Supply Problem

most of infocus parts are oem and made by a company in taiwan that no longer makes power supplies, and many of the parts have their stock numbers and not neccesarily a common stock. the power supply, however, is in stock at infocus for about $65.

LP540 INFOCUS

good luck. not even the infocus authorized service centers get those. besides, they were made by another company that does not make power supplies antmore. and infocus doesn't have any new ones in stock. if you're getting no power at all, replace the mosfets. it works half of the time.

TROUBLE IN LP540

Check for internal fuse on power module, you will have to open the case.
Make sure power cord is removed. Be carefull capacitors tend to hold a charge long after power is removed. I have a LP640 ....big brother to this one. If you open the case the warranty is voided so think about it first. the fuse could be on the circuit board and will look like a small solid green resistor or it could be a full sized fuse in-line with the wires coming from the power cord connector. I have seen the inside of a LP390 with the fuse behind the power inlet connector. Good Luck
