Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Oven's ignitor is bright, I smell gas, but it won't lite.

I have a Amana ARG7102 gas range, when I turn on the oven I smell gas and the ignitor is bright, but it won't lite

I would suspect that the problem can be not enough amperage in the ignitor (not hot enough to ignite the gas), but I'd like to hear expert's opinion before I order the part (I beleive, it's bake ignitor 31940001).

If ignitor is brt orange to white its hot enough to ignite gas, either the flame sensor is giving wrong signal to control board and not opening gas valve or signals the gas valve to shut off gas before ignition, also your flame sensor could be faulty or control board is bad

If it takes more than 2 minutes to light then that ignitor is weak. It should be very bright. It has to draw 3.5 amps to open the valve. The valve is good because the ignitor is working the oven control is good, all it can be is a weak ignitor. It should draw 3.5 amps or have measure 37 ohms.

check the ignitor for the oven even it is glowing it may not be pulling enough amps to call for gas this is a very common problem with maytag and amana ranges replace the ignitor and it should work fine

Amana oven does not work.

the most likly problem is the bake ignitor is bad. this is a common part to fail in gas ovens. the bake ignitor part number for your model is 31940001, and price ranges from $45-$75. a bad clock can also cause this issue, but I would start with the ignitor. let me know if you have further questions. shane

Viking pro. gas range/oven leaks when all knobs turned off

check both oven ignitor and broiler by turning the oven first, and time the time that the ignitor takes before the flame lights up, it should not take more then 60 to 70 seconds, and do the same to the broiler.the one that takes the longer passing that mark of the 70 seconds needs replacing it 's not getting hot enough to light the burner on time that's the one that passes gas with out igniting. replace that one.

Amana oven gas leak issue

staunch has no idea what he is talking about. It has nothing to do with the igniter, or it would fire up at all. Since you are saying that your oven does ignite and heat up, it is the internal gas valve that is the problem.

The way all recent (20 year at least) are designed, the gas valve internally can not open unless the igniter is working, for obvious reasons ... boom! The igniter circuit allows the gas valve to open, once it detects that the igniter is ready to "ignite" a gas flow. BUT, the valve can be bad in the AMOUNT of gas being delivered. Your's is allowing too much gas, more than can be burned, hence the smell.

DON'T use the oven until you have a qualitifed tech come out and replace the valve. It is very dangerous for you to do it yourself.
