It is possible that there are more things wrong but my fridge freezer did that and I had to refill it with Freon gas. You need to get someone who knows what they are doing.

SOURCE: kenmore sideby side fridge

You have a defrost system problem. Defrost is controlled by a timer which energizes the heater circuit. The heater circuit has a radiant or cal rod type heater which melts the frost from the coil. When the coil reaches a temperature where all ice would be gone a termination switch opens and shuts of the heater. The timer will continue to run until defrost time expires (18-22 minutes).

If you can locate the timer there is a clutch head screw to advance the timer to the defrost position. Turn the screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. The heaters should come on and defrost take place. If the unit restarts after the 18-22 minute period the timer is good, if it does not restart advance the screw to a second audible click and it will restart.
If you had to turn the timer the to second click to get it started cooling replace the timer.

If the unit restarted after the 18-22 minutes and defrost did not happen your problem is in the heater circuit. This would be an open heater or bad defrost terminator switch. To access the heater and defrost terminator the back panel in the freezer section must be removed. With an Ohm meter you can check the heater to see if it is good.

SOURCE: Red alarm light is on on Westinghouse upright freezer

Most probably during transportation either the coolant(previously freon gas) may have leaked out so the pressure on the cooling pipeline causing the red alarm because the compressor will overheat if the fridge is kept running at very cold thermostat readings and no effect of cooling the fridge will ultimately result in the compressor getting burnt. However fist have look at thermostat setting knob which could have loosened during transportation and just pushed into the spindle without knowing the correct angle, thus even though it looks as if on high cool but could also be the lowest setting..........sodeep

Westinghouse virtuoso the alarm keeps going off fridge not cooling freezer is not freezing. Help!

Try adding refrigerant or freon. The Alarm just warns you that it's not cooling or freezing and your food is thawing out. Check the fan if you hear the fan running it should be the coolant needs to be put in it. Or it could possibly be both.

Westinghouse freestyle fridge &freezer work but warm after being turned off fo 90 days

What happens in that 72 hours is the evaporator coil get's so much frost built up on it that the fan in the evap. freezer fan has no where to circulate the cold air (where the cold is produced). Basically you have a restriction between freez/fridg. sections you have defrost problem> It is one of three things d heater,d t stat, or your d timer.I need the model # to tell you what my sugestions would be and where to start.

Westinghouse Wse6100WA side by side Fridge-icing up/not cooling

This is a bad design flaw, the fridhe is cooled by fan forced air from the freazer. Two ducts vent into and out of the fridge fron the freezer and ice can block them up (which you can find if you take off all the plastic at the top and back of the fridge).
Hence, when they block up, the frindge does not cool, hence the thermostat tells the fridge to keep running which makes the freezer colder and colder, making the blockage worse.

You need to not only fully defrost the freezer (which can be done quicker by removing the plastic panel in the back of the freezer and using a hairdryer) BUT also fully dry the fridge before turning it back on.
To stop it happening again, avoid puting unvovered liquids or hot items in the fridge. Also avoid leaving the fridge and freezer doors open for long especially in humid conditions. As I said, it's a bad design.

Zanussi refrigerator/freezer model ZX99/5

Hi,
I had the same problem...it was a defrost problem in the freezer....mad i know...fridge doesnt work but freezer does...so its the freezer problem right!!!
This is how i solved it....there is fan behind the freezer compartment....you need to remove all the freezer draws then the plate at the back of the freezer compartment(everything is accessible from inside the freezer only) once removed you can put your hand up inside the gap(make sure power is off and unplugged) just in reach is the fan which you should be able to rotate with your fingers...mine was covered in ice and not able to move as a result the cold air couldnt be blown up into the fridge(the only thing controlling the air into the fridge is a flap and depending upon what fridge setting you have this determines how much cold air its letting in.)
If the fan has been frosted up you need to defrost the freezer....and source a new defrost sensor.
hope it helps.

Top half fridge not cold freezer department fine

I had the same problem; the top fridge compartment was warming up to 14C while the freezer compartment was starting to defrost (frozen stuff was starting to become soft. I took the rear wall off the freezer compartment and found it all iced up. I defrosted it with a blower heater then powered it back up. It all worked fine for a month when the same thing happened. I figured that the defrost cycle wasn't working. I located the defrost timer on the rear right-side of the fridge. I rotated it several times and found that the fridge was turning on and off. I rotated it until the fridge turned off. I waited 5 minutes then stuck my head into the freezer compartment and felt the rear wall at the bottom where he drain is; it felt warm so I guessed the defrost heater element was ok. I ordered a defrost timer and installed it. I haven't had a problem since.

Westinghouse Fridge Problem

Is the fan in the freezer running? You should be able to hear it. If not, that is your problem. Check the door light/fan switch or check if the fan has power to it when you press the door switch in by hand. If fan is running, you could have a defrost problem. The defrost timer or the defrost heater could be faulty.
