IF you can use a broom stick to run through the hose to make sure that there is nothing in it, then you need to check the output filters. They get plugged up with fine dust particles and the suction is reduced. The output filters can usually be rinsed out.

The belt and brush have nothing to do with the suction. The impeller on the motor creates negative pressure which results in a vacuum. ( or suction ) Many newer vacuums have as many as 4 filters. if any become completely clogged, the performance drops to nil. Start at the debris exit and work backwards. As a bagless, pulling the dirt canister out and removing the main filter is a good start. Most filters can be "tapped" clean and some are washable. after pulling out the filter, look where the passage way enters the filter chamber. Is it clogged? There is usually a secondary filter, which actually is set in a previous stage to the filter you just pulled out. Its main purpose if to catch hair, small nails, wire, and other material that could damage the more visible filter. If this filter is clogged then that will explain the loss of suction. Pull it out and clean it. An exhaust filter is located typically above the motor. Its purpose is to prevent fine particles from being blown about. It should be cleaned as well. With the filters clean and the hoses and passage ways clear, you should be good to go.

Pump fault? any filters which can be cleaned?

Typically there is a little red filter accessible from the bottom of the cleaner. Lay it down and flip it over to take a look. It's a little screen like filter. Large particles than can possibly cause a clog are filtered out there. Just pull it out (it will only come out part way) and clean the debris from it.

I have a Hoover Steam Vac also. Learned that trick the hard way. If that's not the problem (it usually is) then I will need the model number from your machine. Hopefully they didn't put it on the bottom of the machine where the numbers wear off. That's where mine was.

Remove the beater bar and check in the suction cavity behind it. That's where they usually plug.

have u checked all of the filters. I know that when not all the filters r clean the machine will turn on but then it will sound louder and still have no suction. Most times there is a filter under dirt container thats sits above motor and if this filter is not clean the motor cannot breath. Thus no suction

If there is no suction, check the filters, if they are clean then there has to be a clog either in the hose or in the inlet down by the brush roll. See if there is suction at the hose end. If there is, then it is clogged down lower. Are you sure that the brush roll is turning when it is on the carpet?
