Radio Shack carries power resistors and they have a two-pack of 10 ohm/10 watt resistors.
Hook up the resistors in parallel -<=>- , and that will give you the 5 ohms @ 5 watts.
Hope this helps...

The 5 ohm could be challenging, what you could try is to get 2 10ohm 3 watt and put them in parallel. Will be 5 ohm and 10ohm is easy to get

Hope that helps

Make sure all your connections are tight , really tight . Check ground , make sure it's to clean shiney metal. Three subs are going to have a low ohm load if paralleled . These amps are not 1 ohm stable ,if below 1.5 ohm's you will have problems. They need to be series paralleled to raise the ohm load. These amps put out the same power from 4 to 1.5 ohms.

I have a JL 1000/1 and the low ohm light switch on and off.. The terminal connector is slightly loose.. with a jiggle of the ground wire the amp switch back to GREEN and plays normal..

Check the ground wire to the car make sure that you have bare metal and that the contact between the car and the wire is good. Ensure that the ground wire is in all the way. What size ground wire are you using. I would say don't use smaller than 4ga for a 1000 watt amps.
Also has the amp been screwed or velcroed to the box? Sometimes amp connections become loose from the vibrations of the bass. So it's possible it might be an internal issue or that the wire isn't in all the way.
I would suggest also taking the amp completely out of the car and inspecting the terminals to make sure they aren't loose or corroded.

I looked up the correct way to wire my JL 13.5W7 1.5. Therefore it said to wire it in parrallel. I understand this will put it at .75 ohm. As I start to turn it up it sounds great, very loud but once the...

1000/1v2 Class D Monoblock Subwoofer Amplifier Specifications:
  1000/1v2

Rated Power:
1000 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm - 4 ohm (11V-14.5V)

THD at Rated Power:
<0.05% @ 4 ohm

S/N Ratio:
>95dB below rated power (A-weighted, 20 Hz - 20 kHz noise bandwidth)

Frequency Response:
5 Hz - 250 Hz (+0, -1dB)

Damping Factor:
>500 @ 4 ohm / 50 Hz

According to the chart your amp is only stable down to 1.5 Ohms, so running at .75 Ohms the noise you are hearing is the amp clipping (running more power than it can handle at low ohms)
I would suggest wiring it in series, or you could adjust the gain on the amp until the popping goes away.

Hope this helps.

Shuts off when the volume gets turned up didnt do this wen new

A mono amp usually can handle only two 4 ohm subs. You see when you hook up two subs in parallel it drops the ohms too 2 ohms and 3 in parellal drops it to 1 ohms overheating the amp and cause power failure. Unless you bought a Mono amp thats 1ohm stable. But still I've seen cheap 1 ohm stable amps not last long. Also possible your subs are fried too check them with a multimeter and measure each sub ohms.

When i turn the volume up my jl 1000/1 amp turns off then turns back on when the volume is low what can i do to fix this?

2 things, either your pushing too much power into the imputs (if using high inputs) and clipping the signal, or your running the ohms too low (lower then the amp can handle safely) by running multiple speakers of too low an ohm each. For example if your amp is 4 ohm stable and your running 2 4 ohm speakers in parallel that makes 2ohms and the amp can't handle a load that low. You can consult your manual and it will give you illistrations of wiring and ohm loads

What to do

well i don't know your budget, but if that's not really and issue, right now at best buy, alpine type E, 10" subs, peak is 750w and rms is 250w, each is 129.99. Alpine type R, 10" subs, peak is 1500w and rms is 500w, each is 199.99. These are the best subs i found at best buy. You could sell your current subwoofers and purchase those, and you'd save space and still get the lows you want. Goodluck

Low ohm light stays on my jl 1000/1

you have your amp wired at too low of an ohm load for the amplifier. This is why it is doing this. Jl amps are awesome and pretty much make everything idiot proof. Not calling you an idiot but go online and search for that model on JL.com then look on either the box your subwoofers came in or on the back of your subwoofers. Find out which ohm load they are and how many voice coils. Next go to www.the12volt.com and find the subwoofer wiring diagrams close to the top of the page. Then enter in your information on your sub's impedence and how many you have then it will give you the wiring options that you have and it will probly tell you you are wired at like a .5 ohm load. And let me guess you turn it up too long or too loud and your amp gets hot and it goes into protection.

JL 500/1 Problem

You need the old transistor. Knowing it's brown is not enough; you need to know its resistance value. It sounds like the resistor you replaced with has too low a resistance value, causing the "cuts" in sound. Find the old resistor and then use this site to find out what you need:

JL Audio 1000/1

Check the resistance between the positive and negative terminals of the speakers. There should be atleast 1 ohm of reistance depending on your set up... if there is very little there is a short in your wiring. If not remove the wires from the amp and now check the resistance between the termanls on the amp...there should be no condinuity...if there is your amp has short circited out.
