Question about Boating

1 Answer

Just purchased Thule 520-1 system for transporting two Kayaks at once. Only two straps and was wondering if each strap is long enough to tie up two kayaks front and back. Do not have the kayaks yet but am purchasing them next weekend and will need to collect and transport myself on a roof rack.

I am getting a lot of vibration noise from the tie down straps [carrying kayak]. What should I do?

i asume you are refering to the kayak being vehicle mounted. and vibration cased by vehicle at speed.
if so try round straps or rope this should reduce vibration. rather than flat straps.
alternative would be to use
pipe insulation foam. the type with the ****.
slide this over the strap during drive to reduce noise.

i hope this was useful

My airdyne has this warning sticker cautioning against using toe clips or straps. I wonder why? Also would it apply to SPD clips if I mounted them?

yea! i remember toeclips and straps and tightening them at 50kmh just before the sprint... bit dodgy. it's just that they really can become stuck as there is a beartrap system that locks on to the leather strap and they are outdated by the new spd's and cleat lock systems. You can of course use them but check the pedal width to make sure your knees are not pronated outward from the frame as all new systems have a narrower bottom bracket. The Spd's will be fine as will Candy's, i use both

Can you confirm how the straps are correctly to be used to hold the surfboard in place?

Place pads around your cross bars, thread straps over the board and under the bar on the far side and then over the board with the buckle end on top of the near side of the board. Then wrap the other end under the bar and 1 time around on the near side, thread through the buckle and pull tight....repeat.

What is the proper way to transport a used stacked washer/dryer in my trailer?

It is best to transport it upright and tied down with rachet straps. Make sure you have it strapped down tight and side to side and front to back. If you cannot move it this way, it will not hurt the unit to set it down on it's side. as long as it is not full of water. As long as it is dry it is safer to gentlty place it on its side. Always use tigh down straps. Be careful

How can I properly tie the camera strap? thanx

if your camera is the samsung L100 just underneath the dock on the camera for the charger there is a small hole that appears to be on a small bit that is sticking out, you can feed the small end of the hand strap through there and then just loop it through. hope this makes sense.

Leather wrist strap

I would scrap the strap - the odours are caused by the tanning chemicals getting wet. Retain the fastening and purchase half a meter of nylon ribbon loop it through the case pegs on one side glue them together and pierce for buckle holes. On the buckle side loop it through both case peg and buckle and fold and glue. You have a choice of colour and it cost only fraction of a new leather one- also you will have enough left to make two straps
