I have that problem. I replaced the memory card for the 2nd time. I think it is a defective card. Of course, I slid the memory lock tab back and forth first, which did not fix it.

My screen is showing memory card error and card locked. I have already checked on the slide in the memory card to check the its position and it is in the unlocked position. Inspite of that I am not able to view pictures ot take pictures.

I would like to know does this mean I would not be able to retrieve my data as I have around 600 pictures on it ...

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Since you don't know how it happened, you should read the manual, to see what LOCKED is.

Else

Go through the setup menus and find the place where you lock and unlock the memory, because it probably thinks you have write protected some of you images.

Maybe you should take it out and put it back in again.

Take out the batteries for a day or so, to let the thing reset.

Re-format the card, after saving everything of course.

Hi,

The message which you are getting because you memory stick is write protected.There is a small thing which make a card write protected.

As I dont know which card you are using so here I am giving an simple example with images.
Just click HERE and first read the instruction.It is from SANDISK as it is the most trusted memory stick brand so i am giving its resemblance.

There is a slide button on the side of the card. One direction locks, the other unlocks. If this doesn't work, make sure you didn't buy an SDHD card for a camera that only uses SD. The error message shows if it's the wrong card. That was my mistake last week.

If you are using SD memory card, it can be locked. Take out your memory card, on the left side there's a switch. Turn switch up and try again. Hope this will work.

Did you using SD card?

Try this:
1. Take out your memory card from the camera.
2. There's switch to lock and unlock on the memory card.
3. Just unlock it, and put back your memory card.

Camara lock

Take out the memory card there is a little lock on the side of it. move the lock over and this should fix your issue. hope this helps

Error 99

I get error 99 sometimes on my 20 D but it?s usually to do with a lens that is attached. Sigma lens have been known to cause error's. If it's not that or dirty contact on the lens then it could be a more serious problem. I would at least check it out with a canon dealer/repair centre.

Make sure the SD card's lock slider is in the unlock position.

I might be overlooking the simple of it. But sometimes that's all it is.

If you can, try another card.
