Question about Dell Computers & Internet
So I wanted to watch 720p and 1080p movies on the 47'' flat screen in the living. To do this I need to transfer video and audio and went with a video card that has hdmi and still fits into the agp slot of the old pc. In order to run the video card the computer needed a bigger psu. I installed (newegg part#17-709-011) a 580W SUNBEAM. Once installed the power button flashed orange, figured it was dead from the factory. Ordered another power supply (newegg part#17-101-021) - Zumax Topower 550W. The power button flashed orange again! I tried this psu on my other main computer and it works fine. Now I uninstalled everything new and re-set up the computer the way it was in the first place. The power button flashes orange! I have another old dell psu, same thing. But all of these power supplies work on my optiplex gx270... except I haven't tried the original sunbeam. I'm thinking that the first power supply I bought somehow fried the motherboard. I disconnected everything from the motherboard except the old video card and one stick of ram and it does the same thing. Help! Thanks.
Donno, really, guess it cant hurt. Only thing you'll lose is time, and waiting for some1 to talk to. =p

Yes, it sounds like the motherboard from the Dell machine is now ready for the recycle yard. My son had an old Dell that the motherboard failed, and one by one, all add on cards, and eventually the RAM stopped working. Those old Dell systems can only keep going for so long, and besides, why hang on to it? Get a new PC, they are low priced now, and you get such a faster, smoother running PC.
