Brown streaks on clothes

I have this exact problem. In fact, we went out and bought a brand new Whirlpool HE washer, frontloader to get rid of it once and for all and wouldn't you know it, I've got those marks again. We are beside ourselves!! It is only happening to the shirts like you mentioned. I had a technician once tell me it ''could be'' the fabric softener and the way it mixes with our water, especially if we have hard water. I don't know if he was just fishing for something to tell me or what. He also mentioned to do smaller loads so that it wouldn't get caught on the drum. Basically he had no idea what was making these marks. We have taken the hoses off the back and cleaned them out. Everything has been cleaned and is spotless. Nothing has worked!! I am going to get my water tested this coming week. Still not totally convinced if its the washer or the dryer. I gave our last washer (which was making marks) to my brother. He hasn't had one mark yet!! Works fine for him. If anyone has any good/sound advice, please help!!

I found an entire site with hundreds of the same complaint but it was in regards to the new dryers. Now I'm not sure where the problem is even coming from. I guess we won't be drying for awhile to see if we still see the brown marks. Thanks for your advice.

You may need to flush your water heater out. Without seeing this I can only guess that you have rust and scale getting into the washer.

There's another possibilty. The marks are coming from your dryer. I had the brown mark problem on my Whirlpool LER4634EQ1 Dryer. It turns out that the inner drum seal wore the paint off the pilot diameter on the inner wall. The pilot diameter rusted and the rust transfered onto the seal. The marks on the clothes are rust marks. I replaced the seal on my dryer, but don't know how long it will last. You may need to try and paint the pilot diameter. The seal with glue was $34 delivered from pcappliancerepair.com. Here's pictures of the rust: http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/ZeeVert/Whirlpool%20Dryer/

You need to install a filtering system on the water supply.

My washer stains my clothes. it looks like grease stains on delicate fabrics. plse advise. I checked many times and dont know where it is coming from. agnes

The brown stains are likely coming from the felt drum seal. The OEM adhesive is tar based - and after time and use - breaks down.

You'll need a new felt seal - and the adhesive that is used should be silicone based... eliminating the brown streaks.

I have a Whirlpool Duet front load dryer. It puts rust streaks on all of my clothes. I can not find the source of the rust.

The drum is stainless steel.
Maybe a nut or bolt is in the water flow tubing that is giving off rust.
looks like you are going to have to take off some of the tubes inside and have a look to see if you can find anything amiss.

Brown streaks on my clothes after washing them

O.K. Here it is, I solved it. After calling whirlpool who was of no help at all, reading all links about the Duet washer and/or the Duet dryer, I finally solved the problem myself. I too, thought it was the washer but, upon close inspection, found the felt on the dryer had worn out in one spot. The thin brown lines always showed up on whites and more so on anything very thin. I took the dryer apart and found a small burn line on the drum (brown and thin). I replaced the felt ($60) and used Simple Green to clean off the brown. Works perfect, no more thin brown lines. If you can't take the dryer apart, I called for repair and found the price with parts to average $250.
I was ready to sell the darn thing after it ruined about $300 worth of clothes. All in all, it's been three weeks and still working fine.

Brown streaks on clothes

Check an earlier post of mine. This problem was killing me and Whirlpool was of no help at all. They claimed to never have heard of these thin brown streaks. Well, it was the dryer and as proof, I found where the thin brown lines were coming from. The felt had worn out in one spot allowing thin, whites and other thin items to slide in between the drum and the backing, resulting in the transfer of a thin brown line randomly on my clothes. Replace the felt (rollers and bearings if necessary) and with the drum apart, clean off the burnt brown streak of the backing with Simple Green. No more problems.
