Bamix De Luxe Hand Mixer - cutter guard

The cutter guard has come off my Bamix De Luxe Hand Mixer . It looks like it should just screw back on as it seems to have a thread but I can't seem to get the 2 threads to 'catch' each other to allow me to screw them together . Is there a special way this has to be done ?

Instructions state to remove it, turn it clockwise, so the opposite remains true. To replace it, turn it counterclockwise.
