There should be a serial number and service tag on the bottom of it.

You can also download an application from the Toshiba website which you can install on your machine. This will confirm the specific model, and also serial number, warranty info, etc.

From experience, I can tell you that In the USA you will more than likely have an M400 (Other models are used in Europe and Asia), and only need to worry about the operating system and processor Type.

On the M400, only the Core 2 (Not Duo) T7200, T7400 and T7600 are 64 bit capable. All the rest are 32 bit processors. You can find this by right clicking my computer, and selecting Properties.

Look at the bottom / underside of your laptop. It will have a sticker with a serial no. and bar code. The same sticker or a sticker next to it will have the model, type and submodel listed.
You can use that. If you know how to open the BIOS of your PC then you can use that to identify the submodel. To access BIOS, follow instructions that appear on screen when you start your PC/Laptop. It usually flashes for a second.

There are several "submodels" for the Satellite a505. You can go this link and select the appropriate sub-model to get a downloadable manual directly from Toshiba.
