Hi Marengo,
Excessive ice or frost build up in the fan can be due to vareity of causes. These include:
1) The door is left open for a long period of time. Make sure the door is closing properly and is not blocked by something between the door gasket and cabinet.
2) Due to high humidity in some seasons and frequent freezer door opening.
3) If there is some blockage in the vents between freezer and refrigerator section and air-circulation is hampered in the refrigerator between the freezer and refrigerator compartments.
4) Due to a fault or leakage in the gasket lining the refrigerator door causing outside air to enter the freezer section.
Check your refrigerator and rule out the causes listed above. Also, please provide us with the exact model number and year of manufacture of your refrigerator so that we can help you better.
Hope this solves your problem. Thanks.

    Hi,

Since you have ruled out all the causes of this problem, it looks as if there is a fault with the temperature controller and it needs to be replaced. Refer the problem to a trained service personnel. If your refrigerator is under warranty, you can contact the customer service dept. for the service.

    Thanks.

Sub zero 532 fridge is not cooling porperly but freezer is fine

Top of Form

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Freezer works but frig not cooling

if you were to reach your hand towards the rear inside the fridge area can you feel cold air blowing into the refrigerator side if not this could either be due to the fan inside the freezer area not working or there is a small door that is controled by a thermostat inside the ceiling of your refrigerator this thermostat when it reaches a tempreture that is to warm it opens a small door in the rear that connects to the freezer allowing cold air to come into the refrigerator side when the refrigerator becomes cold enough the thermostat then shuts the door. You could also have a defrost issue inside the freezer area in which u would need to remove the rear panel in the rear of the freezer in order to assure you did not have this issue. If you remove the rear panel and you see any ice build up on the evaporator coil (note this is also where the fan that blows the cold air into your refrigerator is located)you would have a defrost issue. If you remove that rear panel and find any ice build up message me back and il instruct how to fix but first check to assure you have air blowing into the refrigerator side. If you dont then you have to diagnose which is causing the issue either the fan which you could hear if you listened inside of the freezer area or the door itself is not opening due to a malfunction with the thermostat if you have any further questions message me back and please also remember when our chat has fully conlcuded to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations Thanks

My refrigerator will not get cold the freezer gets cold it also has frost on the back panel in the freezer

You have a problem with the defrost circuit of your refrigerator. The frost is building up on the evaporator coils in the freezer preventing air circulation from the refrigerator to be cooled off by the coils. It is made up of three parts, the defrost timer/control module, defrost heater, and thermostat.

The way it works is that normally the compressor has power for 8- 24 hours, then the timer/module cuts power off and sends power to the defrost heater for about 45 minutes. The heater is attached to the coil and warms up the coil to melt the ice. When the coil reaches about 40 deg F, the thermostat which is in series with the heater, opens up cutting off power to the heater. This prevents the freezer from getting too hot. After the 45 minutes are up, the timer/module switches the power back to the compressor again to restart the cooling cycle.

I don't know what make and model fridge you have since you did not supply it. But if you have an older model it is controlled by a timer, often it fails to advance to the defrost mode causing it to stay in cool mode. Often the problem is that the defrost heater burns out so it can't melt the frost on the coils.

If you take the panel off the back of the freezer you will find the evap coil. You can use a hair dryer to melt the ice. The heater will be attached to the coil. If you have a meter you can check whether it is burned out. Replacement parts can be found at your local appliance repair outlet or online at repairclinic.com.

My Panasonic refrigerator NR-B420T is not cooling, however the freezer part still cooling.

Since there is cooling on the freezer the fault can be the defrost timer. So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.

However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Build-up of soft ice all over in the freezer

Do a manual defrost of the unit. Unplug it.. empty the freezer and place a fan b l o w i n g into the freezer for about 2 hours.
After the manual defrost return the unit to normal service.

If the soft build up of ice shows up again take a very hard look at the door seals. Look for tears.. gaps or any place the gasket is no longer attached to door face

This unit should defrost about every 10 hours. If it does not automatically defrost,,,, doing a manual defrost will only keep the unit going if you repeat the manual defrosting drill every 2 - 3 days.

If it just never goes into the automatic defrost cycle at all, the control board could have failed. PN: W10116216

A failed defrost heating element can also cause this. Item 10 this link:

The freezer is working fine but the bottom area is not cooling. i shut it off for two days then it was ok, but after two weeks again same problem. please advice

You unit is not defrosting. You proved that by unplugging it for 2 days and then when you restarted it everything was fine. What happened is the ice built up again in the freezer section and it has an air blockage so the fan no longer blows air properly through your unit. Most of the time it is something as simple as a defrost timer causing the unit not to defrost. Other failures can be the defrost heating element, Defrost 60 deg F thermostat and wiring. You did not list a model number so I can not provide you with the part numbers.

My refrigerator stopped working and will not come back on. It is a Jenn-Air Side by side purchased 4 years ago.

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
