When compressor is running, the fan beside it and the fan in the freezer should be running. make sure coils are clean. if there is frost build up on freezer wall, you may have defost problem that is blocking the flow of air.

Why will my frig not do it's defrost cycle? Could it be the temp Fuse - where is it?

First off try taking a vacuum cleaner and cleaning off your coils of any dust, dirt or hair that is blocking good air flow to make sure your refrigerant is as cool as possible before it hits the compressor.

If you have frost on your evaporator coils that means the coils probably are covered in an ice layer which stops the coils from absorbing heat from your refrigerator because believe it or not, 32 F ice is not near as cold as evaporator tubes with refrigerant running thru them at about -20F or lower.
So make sure there is a nice unobstructed air flow to condensing coils and fan so the heat from refrigerator compressor can be carried away properly.

After everything is really clean, turn refrigerator completely off for the night to make sure any ice formed on the coils is melted away. Any ice on the coils will screw up the thermostats and then the refrigerator will turn on the compressor to run even when it shouldn't

So do a complete manual defrost before going back on

My frig is running but not cooling - frig is 50 degrees, freezer 40 degrees, cleaned the coils, etc GE side by side coils in bottom if frig side feel cool, "box" between freezer and frig side is not blowing...

I can help you diagnose the problems with your GE. Several things can cause these symptoms. All you need is a voltage meter patience and a want to, to repair and do it better than a paid technician. In most cases with the PSS26MSRSS the defrost heater is the cause for this. Look into rear of your freezer and back wall. Is Ice or frost building on rear wall? If yes unplug and prepair to remove contents in freezer compartment. Remove rear panel in freezer and use hair dryer to defrost ice until the defrost heater is visible. BRB , Sea Breeze

Leaking water into frig when defrosts

The problem is the defrost drain is pluged. At the rear of the frig section up at the top you will see a small cup where the water drains into. I always used a large syringe with a rubber hose attached. Fill the syringe with hot tap water and flush the ice out of the drain tube. Once cleaned out and the water runs freely your problem will be solved.

Refrigerator not cooling

It could have one of several problems. Is ice blocking the passage from the freezer to the frig? If so, then the problem is, it is not defrosting.

Or it could be it is not turning on after defrosting.

Either case would be a bad defrost timer. You can turn that with a screw driver till it clicks and see if anything happens.

There is a defrost timer, under the frig, accessible from the front. You can turn it with a screw driver. Turn it till you hear a click. If the timer hasn't been turning, that should turn on the defroster, a heating element nested among the freezer coils. Wait half an hour and if it is defrosting, water should be dripping into the drip pan underneath the frig. If so, then replace the defrost timer and you're good to go.

Or if turning the timer makes the compressor come on, then replace the timer.

If the timer is working, then perhaps the problem is the defrost thermostat, in with the freezer coils. When the frig defrosts, the defrost heater stays on until the defrost thermostat gets warm. It should be open circuit while warm. But if it is open circuit while cold, it is bad.

If you open up the freezer coils, use a hair dryer to defrost. That is safer than hot water.

Hope you can fix it.

Help frig not cooling model # FRT21LR7A

Hello,

You have to replace the electrical components on the side of the compressor. The heat from the fan not running by the compressor more than likely has damaged them. These are a safety feature to save the compressor from damage when it overheats.

You can find the factory repair manual here. This will have all the part numbers and what you need to replace to take care of your refrigerator. The Top Freezer Refrigerator one will be about your machine. It covers all the FRT Models.

Thanks
