My sony flatscreen will not show picture. The red button will blink nine times which I am told means something.

Hello,
the error light sequence that you are seeing is indicating a "backlight error". Most likely you have a bad inverter board -the board that powers up the back-lights behind the display panel. They might be available via ebay if you are a DIYer, or you need to call for sony service.

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not re-solder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negative).

Once your television blinks about 9 times then it means there is a problem somewhere most likely the lamp of the television. Another source of this problem is also a bad capacitor from either the main panel or the power panel.

If your remote turns off actually it is because there is nothing to operate on the television, so once your television starts the blinking light, the remote will not be able to operate the television, once you unplug the television and plug it back then press the power button, the remote will do the same.

Until the television is fixed is when the remote will work normally.

It's dead. 9 Blinks means the display adaptor is dead. If it's still under warranty, you're covered.

6 times red light blink shows error in power supply (GT) board because of no 12 volts output for some reason.
Replace GT board to fix the problem.

The number of blinks, called error codes, is crucial in determining what's wrong with your unit.. In this case the color wheel is faulty and needs to be replaced. In that unit the color wheel assembly is Panasonic p/n# TXFEN01RP4S and is available from many sources for about $390.00 plus shipping.
There are some companies like Tri-State-Module that have taken-up rebuilding color wheel assemblies but I can't be certain that this is one of the brand/models they support. If you can have it rebuilt you might save about half the price of a new one...
