On my whirlpool microwave, number panel does not work. All other touch buttons work and the microwave will run when we add time with the "30 seconds" button but the number buttons do not work.

If the delay in heating is exactly the same each time, you might have some sort of control panel problem. If it is approximately the same each time, you may have an intermittent magnetron that is failing to oscillate until the heater reaches a high enough temperature to emit an adequate number of electrons.

Your touch pad is connected to your board with a ribbon wire, it has probably come loose. Unplug the unit and remove the face plate. Pull it back and you will see the wire, it looks like a ribbon, push it in tight, replace the face plate and it should work properly. I see this happen all the time.

The owner's manual is here. On page 10 we find:

COOKING IN ONE STAGE
1. Press the POWER button; the Microwave and High
Cook indicators will light and “PL 10” will light in the
display.
2. Press the POWER button different times to set the
desired power; the display will show the percentage
you chose. If selecting power level 70%-10%, the
Low Cook indicator will light instead of the High
Cook indicator.
3. Press number keys to set the desired cooking time.
OPERATION(CONTINUED)
4. Press the START/+30SEC. button to start cooking;
the Microwave and one of the Cook indicators will
blink and the display will countdown the remaining
cooking time in minutes and seconds. It will beep
five times when cooking is completed.

I've got the same problem and error code. Did you ever find the fix?

If you want to order a touch pad, (it has the micro computer built in it!) and fix it that way, you'll still have a 2-3 year old machine.
I would say it would be quicker and cheaper to buy a new one.

The touch pad seems faulty, there may be moisture behing the first touch pad film, suggest replacing touch pad as it cannot be fixed, Phil

SOME ELECTRONIC CONTROLS HAVE A LOCKOUT FEATURE THAT IS ENGAGED AND DISENGEGED BY HOLDING A CERTAIN BUTTON FOR 5 SECONDS. LOOK FOR A LOCK PAD AND HOLD IT FOR 5 SECONDS TILL IT BEEPS.

IF NOT AVAILABLE, THE TOUCH PAD MAY BE UNPLUGGED FROM THE MAIN P.C. BOARD OR MAY BE DEFECTIVE.

ALSO, TRY UNPLUGGING THE MICROWAVE FOR 5 MINUTES
TO RESET THE MICROCOMPUTER, THEN PLUG IT BACK IN AND SEE IF IT WORKS.

AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET NOT WIRED WITH PROPER POLARITY OR NOT GROUNDED CAN AFFECT ELECTRONIC APPLIANCES ALSO.

This is a Whirlpool model, so one of these methods should work:

- Press and hold the Cancel button for 3 or 4 seconds.

- Touch and hold START/ENTER for 4 seconds.

- Touch and hold START for 5 seconds
